Just to begin, we're not fond believers in January trips, this was our second January stay. We were there January23-January 31 and our resort choice was Wilderness Lodge.
First off, it was another Amtrak trip for us, one of the worst might I add, 6 hour layover in DC turned into 13 hours, not good arriving in Kissimmee at 7:30pm instead of 1:30pm. Our daughter and SIL joined us but flew down.
This trip was one of the more relaxed since we've been there so many times. We didn't rent a car, as always, used Disney transportation and basically had no issues getting around. We did the parks as we wanted, not touring plan or guide, sometimes got on the first bus to pull up.
Parks were on the heavier side for this time of year but very manageable till later in the day. Tour groups were bad, too many and if you got in behind them, they could clog an attraction line in a heart beat. Some attractions we down for refurb but didn't impact our trip. We did all the parks over and over except AK, still do not like this park due to crowding and no basic touring direction can be used. MK being our favorite and a boat ride away, we spent alot of time there, shopping, gawking and just enjoying the whole atmosphere. No water parks for us in January and as a side, the pool temp at WL was too cold to do, upset over this as last January trip pool temp was kept in the 80's.
We never do any dining plan but eat where and when we want, no problem getting into restaurants. We did the Hoop Dee Do again, best show on property and drank our share of everything. We do a grocery stop in route and enjoy pool picnics everyday at noon, along with a huge amount of adult beverages. We also share most meals, most are too big for one person and doggy bags on vacation are a no-no.
Our resort was great, check-in smooth, room location not bad, only one day out of 7 mousekeeping missed but another keeper and did us up. We called and told them we like our room cleaned before noon and they took care of it the whole trip. Amenities and towels were abundant and we asked not wanted anything more, always a clean room and I might say, an exceptionally clean bathroom, you could smell the chlorox, first rate job. Food at resort was top notch, we had excellent meals at FW also, a little tip,if you're headed to Trail's End for breakfast, go late like 10:30am, this way you get breakfast and a shot at lunch for the one money, cast member said it was no problem.
To top off this report, weather turned out fine 80's until we were leaving and then the temps were really cold, thank you supreme being. We enjoyed our stay, no issues other than Amtrak, guest services will get a call on that, we also got held up in Savannah Georgia coming home for 2 plus hours to swap out a coach car. I'm not one to really complain but I can tolerate the know 6 hour layover in DC, just barely, but adding another 6 plus hours onto this spread my wire real thin. We you have done this trips as many times as we have and plan on getting into Disney by 2pm and having a good hunk of the day to settle and play, arriving 6+ hours later just is not good form, wife was more peeved than me. But, that's life, we only worry about what we can control and the trip was one of the best, wife and I sharing the memories with our daughter and SIL.
