Okay, I'm determined to do this trip report because I got so much out of reading everyone else's while I was planning our trip. I can't believe it's over and we have some great (and some not so great) memories.

Cast Members:
me, DH, DD9, DD9 in one cabin and MIL, SIL, DNiece6, DNephew9 in another stateroom across from us right off the aft elevators.

We did WDW for 2 nights prior to the cruise. We had been in 2006 w/MIL but other 3 hadn't been. It was maybe a little too short of a stay but we hit the major stuff for DN6 to experience the "magic". We took the DCL bus on Thurs to the port from POFQ. It picked us up by 11:30-11:45. We had a nice ride to the port and arrived about 1:00 pm. We got through the check in process pretty quick. It helped having all the forms filled out ahead of time. It was so nice not having to deal with any of the luggage, just our carry ons. We were told when we boarded that the staterooms just became available so that was a plus we dropped everything off and made our way to Beach Blanket Buffet for lunch. I thought the food was good there, lots to choose from and all very tasty. I forgot to say that we went to get the pagers for the kids club on deck 5 before eating. It was so much less crowded than the line in the terminal. A cast member gave me this hint so if it's a long line in the terminl just go to deck 5 forward to get the pagers/wristbands. We let the kids play in the very crowded pools for a few minutes before the safety drill. I will say I was so overwhelmed by the mass of people I was a little worried that this total koas would flank our entire trip. I was just exausted and it was sooo hot, records temps of course when we are there!!
Anyway, time for safety drill. We had to go to deck 4 for ours but it really wasn't bad. It got a little hot in the jackets but it was over in about 15-20 minutes. It was off to the sail away party!!! Since our family's cabin was across the hall we had different muster stations. We were to meet on deck 9. We got there first and I tell you I thought it was going to be a mob seen but we got to be right up by the stage and had plenty of room around us. I wonder of the heat didn't keep some people from joining in. I'm telling you it was HOT! It was fun and boy those CM's can dance, the sweat was pouring off of them, poor souls!
My girls and I danced while DH saved a table for his mom and SIL who we never did find. Another tip if going with extended family. Be flexible and understand it's really hard to stay together in crowds or meet when there are events going on. My in laws were always getting bent out of shape because they couldn't find us. We just moved at different paces. We like to go, go , go. They moved like snails and had to think about everything for like 15 minutes before they moved. That's not how we operate, especially on a vacation with so much to do.

Anyway, I've got lots of stories about my inlaws but I'll refrain from sharing too much on this trip report and stick to details. We went back to our cabin to get ready for the first show, Golden Mickey's. Let me just say, these shows are not to be missed. They are nothing short of Broadway productions. They kept all the kids in our group fully engrossed and that's no small task. The ship was really rolling that night and I was a little glad I took a Bonine that morning. I didn't feel sick in the stomach so much as my head was feeling weird. Either way I was glad I took it. For the record, I took it the next morning just because I thought I should, but I don't think I needed it and didn't take it again. I 'm glad I didn't medicate my kids, they were fine and thought the movement was cool. If you are on the fence about medication and you haven't had a bout of motion sickness before, I think you will be fine. THere is about 45 min to 1 hour between the show and the late dinner seating, 8:15. WE just killed time by going to the lounge that was playing music or walked on deck 4. Dinner was at Animator's Palate and our servers were Madlen and Jose. They were great. Madle knew all the kids names before they sat down, even my twins. She was so sweet and very well versed on everything Disney. She gave us so much information. My girls were really sad they will not see her again. I' ve said before the food was so, so. It was a little fancy but that is not my issue. I thought that quality and taste were lacking. That night I ended up getting a great app (can't remember but maybe some type of bruchetta?), a so, so salad and a pasta dish that I could have made myself from a jar--not impressive at all. But again, I didn't care we were having a nice time and the best part...I didn't have to cook it, serve it or clean it up!!!! That's priceless!
We were pooped and knew we had to get up for the dolphin encounter the next day so we strolled a little and then went to bed.
I have to go make dinner now....I really could go for that lack luster pasta dish right about now!!!
Be back soon for day 2!

I totally agree with the inlaw comment. I love to travel with friends and family, but I always think our best vacations have always been when its just our little family. It is really hard to meet up with people, and keep everyone happy! Sounds like the first day was great....and the weather sounds like it was fabulous.....awesome!!!!

Day2- Friday, May 8th
This was "dolphin day"!! We were so excited to do this excursion. It almost didn't happen for half our group. We had to meet at Studio Sea at 9:30 am so we met for breakfast at Parrot Cay for the seated buffet. Tip:this is a great place to enjoy a buffet but not have to scour the joint for a seat. You are seated at a table first then you go up to the buffet. This works best if you have a time limit and it's less stress if you have a large party. Okay, so my MIL forgot her medicine so she had to go back to her cabin but we were not worried because we were done eating by 8:50. Somehow my SIL decided she needed to go back too so of course we had to keep her kids while they went back. We said we would wait right by the elevators or walk down to Studio Sea which was right down the corridor from PC. Well, 9:15 rolls around, no MIL or SIL. I'm a little worried but I go in with the kids because the CM is starting to give instructions and I don't want to miss what to do. My DH starts to figure out how to get a hold of them. It's now 9:30 and I've shown our ID and tickets and we are getting ready to get in another line to get the wristbands. My family was beside ourselves. My girls are worried what is going to happen to their cousins if theyu don't come back and I'm mad as you know what at this point. Why can't they just look at their tickets...it tells them exactly where to go!!! AHHH!!! So Dh finally found a crew member to help and they come strolling in about 9:35 or so. I still don't know what they were doing, my MIL looked worried too. I think they were lost. THen all my SIL had to say was "Why are my kids sitting over there by themselves??" Meanwile they were about 20 feet from me sitting at a table. They were perfectly safe. I was about to boil over but stayed calm for my girls. Okay,I'm not going to dwell on that little fiasco because once we got on our way, all was good in the world. The walk to the ferry is a little long, especially if its hot and it was HOT when we were there. In fact my MIL ended up needing a ride part of the way because she just couldn't make it. If you or your family member can't walk distances, try to set up a ride. She was driven on a golf cart, but I don't even know who or where he was from! The ferry ride was beautiful. You are sitting on the covered, shaded part of the boat. It was about 30 min long. We were told no sunscreen several times but I did see a mom lathering up her kids in Studio Sea and my SIL said something to her and she said she didn't hear that. My girls wore swim shirts and the encounters are under cover so I would not put sunscreen on because you could see a film on the water where the dolphins were and it makes the decks around the encounter slippery. Just my 2 cents!

I have to go get my girls off the bus. More dolphin details tonght!

Day 2 con't.
The dolphin excursion was worth every penny. After you sit through the 15 minute presentation about dolphins you go right down to the floating decks. Our family went first (there were 8 of us, although my MIL couldn't get down the steps into the water or sit on the side of the decks) the guide lines everyone on the edge of the platform that is below the water, about belly deep for me (I'm 5'8''). We first got a family pic with the dolphin kissing one of my girls. The dolphin is told to do certain tricks with each person. Everyone gets a hug and a dance. Watch out, if he doesn't like your dancing he splashes water in your face. I had to buy the DVD just for that moment that he splashed my DH. Too funny! We were in the water about 15-20 minutes. We waited to get our DVD and still pics which were not that badly priced. I think our package was 3 5x7's that came with 2 wallet sized magnets for $40. The DVD was $37 I want to say and it came with 2 wallet sized keychains of the family picture and a hardcover book with some dolphin pictures. We took the 1:00 ferry back. There was a 2 or 4 o'clock ferry if you wanted to stay on the little beach area but our kids wanted to explore the pools onboard some more. We were back at the ship by 1:45 but first I had our passports stamped with the Bahamas stamp since it will probably be the only foreign country we will visit for now. If you want to know where to do this just let me know.
We got back onboard and hit the pools, got some lunch which consisted of cheeseburgers and chicken tenders- both were very good. We relaxed by the pool until it was time to get ready for the show, Toy Story. I had low expectations and even considered not going because I had heard mixed reviews on these boards. The main complaint being it was a reinactment of the movie for the most part---which is true but the costumes and singing are a must. It was really nice! Dinner was at Parrot Cay tonight. I don't know if I mentioned our servers Madlen and Jose but we really looked forward to talking to them again. Again the menu was very intimidating to some of our party. I had the rib eye that came with a potato. It was good except I ordered it well done and it was not even close...to much red for me. I didn't send it back because I didn't feel like waiting for something else. It was so late already. I had a dessert medly...again, not impressed. I was so sad that I didn't find this food out of this world, I really wanted to and believe me I' m not that hard to please! (if you saw me you would know what I mean.) I can honestly say that I did not go home feeling like I had over eaten like many people say they do after cruising. It was pirate night so we went striaght up to deck 9 to get in on the action. It was cute, our kids were exausted from the dolphin excuraion so we made it to fireworks and that was it. No buffet for me...gosh, I think I'm starving to death here...just kidding. One thing I thought was funny was that on the famous survey that every CM you come in contact with asks you to pleeeeeeaasse fill it out, it did not ask you specifically about food. It skimmed over the subject and was more worried about how your servers served the food.hhhmmm? You could list problems with other aspects of your cruise but nowhere about the food...
Oh well, next is Day 3 Castaway Cay----aka my future home whether Disney likes it or not!

Hey Hanlin, I'm lovin your trip report. Do you know I've been to the Bahama's five times on the wonder and never had my passport stamped. Where did you get that done? My girls will love that. Also, sorry to hear about your food not being good. We sail in June and I'm scared because we have always had out of this world food. Oh well, I'm like you. Go with the flow... Taking my MIL too. :)

Hi Disneymom1976! I heard about the passport thing here on these boards. Okay, there is a little buiding at the end of the long concrete walkway from the ship, it's before you make the last turn to go into the buildings you have to walk through to get out of the port area.(the very opposite end of the walkway where the arch that says "Island of the Bahamas" or something where everyone gets their picture taken.) The building is like a guardhouse with an arm that goes up and down to let cars through. Well, right behind that little guard house is a building a little to the left. You walk past the "arm" and to that building and enter the first set of double glass doors. Make a right off the lobby ad go to the last room on the right. If you are like us you will find a very large Bahamian man asleep in front of the open window taking an afternoon snooze!! He stamps your books. It was very close and simple. Hope this helps. Good luck with you MIL. Our issues were mainly with my SIL, but I guess you take a chance when traveling with family that you are not close to. Have a great trip!

Day 3- Castaway Cay Day
Wow, the pictures just don't do this place justice. It is what heaven must look like. We woke to a beautiful, hot day. We were off the ship about 9:30or 10. There were many people off earlier and I was so worried that all the good spots were being taken. We got some character pics along the way and there were hardly any waits for Chip and Dale or Pluto. Mickey had a small line but we skipped him. I really wanted a pic of Jack and the girls but we were on the tram when I saw him and there was a line. Little did know I would run into some Disney magic later. Anyway we got off the tram at the first stop and so did everyone else. I didn't realize that there was another stop further down, oh well. We walked towards the end of the family beach just like everyone here had suggested. We couldn't go too far knowing that MIL and SIL would be not far behind us and they have a hard time walking.
We stopped at the beach entrance past the eating area. It was not too crowded but I could see the further down you were the less crowded it was. If it had been just us 4 we would have gone down more. We were actually in front of that play are in the water, which worked out since it gave our girls a reference point as to where we were if they drifted. Really, there isn't a bad spot on that beach everyone had plenty of room, plenty of chairs and easy access to bathrooms and food/drinks. A quick note about the tube/raft rentals. Our girls wanted tubes, my instinct was to get one of each but I didn't want them to fight so DH got 2 tubes. They hardly used them. DH used them more than anyone because they are really big, my girls couldn't get on them or use them comfortably. If we had gotten the mats I think we would have used them more. I think my girls were picturing smaller tubes like we use at home in our pool but these are the big ones like you use when you are on one of those lazy river rides and such. We ate at Cookies and it was pretty good althought eating in 95 degree heat wasn't fun but all in all it was tasty and filled us up. I had to try the Conch Cooler and my DH heard it was buy one get one so he got us each one and boy was I glad he didn't pay for both. Wow, let me just sat that I am not a drinker (anymore) and these were very strong, very sweet and the consistancy reminded me of really thick, gooey orange juice. It wasn't bad but I really only needed like 4 sips and I was done. I was too full and too hot to be drinking that drink. My suggestion is that if you are not a big drinker but still want to try one, split it with someone. Let me tell you about our small Disney magic moment. I really was sad that we wouldn't have that oh so popular pic of Jack with the ships in the backround but I didn't want to treck the girls all the way back where we saw him. They were having so much fun, plus it was hot...did I mention that? I no sooner thought this when I looked up to the opening where you enter that part of the beach and there was Jack himself clammering about trying to stand up. I jumped up and yelled for DH to get the girls. I think he thought there was an emergency or something-well it kinda was! They came running as I asked his CM companion if he was posing for photos and she said yes. There was only one other person around getting his pic. My girls thought it was so funny that Jack could hardly stand up and when I was trying to tell one of my girls to switch spots, he would do it and then I was trying to tell her to go back because Jack had moved and then he went back. It was hysterical. My poor MIL, who is not steady on her feet, had to hold the poor guy up while taking their pic. Then he grabbed her hands in his and went on for like 5 minutes about how he hated leaving her, etc, etc...too funny! What a fun job, having to act tipsy and say whatever you want to people! (I hope he was acting!) So we shopped and headed back to the ship by 3:30 to get ready for the last show, Disney Dreams and dinner...and packing. Oh, I forgot to bring ID when we got off (I wasn't asked to show it) we just had our KTTWs with us. It was no big deal, they had our security photos on the computer. The show did not disappoint. It made me a little teary I don't know why maybe just all those Disney stories thrown at you at once or something!Dinner was at Tritons. Madlen and Jose did not disappoint again. The food did again. It pains me to write that but I had the Lobster Ravioli or something like that which was rigatoni noodles (ravioli??) in the same white sauce I had on the pasta dish I had the first night with maybe some fish stock mixed in and a few pieces of lobster on top. I'm not a lobster expert but it just didn't tast as good as it should. I took only about 3 bites and Madlen noticed (SIL had the same thing and couldn't eat hers either) and asked if we wanted something else. She was very appologetic. The chocolate mousse was the best dessert I had on the trip. If Disney keeps the current menu and i went on another cruise in the near future, I would probably eat at the buffet most nights. I can't believe I am saying this, I really am not a picky eater and enjoy fine dining but I just couldn't make myself like much on the new menus. We had to get back to the cabin to get the luggage together. The kids went to the kids club for the first time the whole trip. They wanted to make flubber and we needed them busy for a little while. They had fun and we picked the up by 11. With the luggage gone we tucked ourselves in one last time. It went way to fast. We will definitely do a longer cruise next time.
Disembarkation went smooth but one thing I want to mention. We took the DCL bus to the airport so our luggage was taken the night before and we didn't have to do anything with it until our home airport. We flew Airtran and had to pay $15 for each of our bags ($45 total). We were told in a notice that we would be asked to pay this at the port terminal. Well we were never asked and I forgot all about it. There was no counter to stop at and no one there to collect it. We just breezed right through to the customs line and out the door to the buses. Let me tell you it was a mess at the airport trying to figure out who to pay. We were told that if it wasn't paid our bags might not make it!!! I was freaking. Airtran blamed Disney and said they have to handle and I went all the way back to DME counter and they said they couldn't take our $, we had to call this outside company that handles this. Long story short, my cell phone died while I was arguing with this girl who said she didn't know what I was talking about and that I should have my bags with me..blah..blah...blah- I almost cried. Luckily, Kristen from Disney talked me off the ledge and she called and put me in touch w/someone who understood and took our credit card #. Thank God our flight was not soon, we would have missed it. This is another good reason not to book a return flight too early in the day. Besides my MIL loosing her carry on in the airport and then it being found and treated like a bomb---the rest of the trip was uneventful!!! Did I mention that I will not be traveling with extended family any time soon!!
I hope you enjoyed my trip report. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask. I may find one of those tip threads and add somethings I felt were important. I will hopefully be joining these boards agian to plan another trip.

Great trip report! Thanks for the info....I am debating on the Dolphin Encounter...I want to do the Aquaventure, but I don't know if my little one will be 48 in by December! So you can hang out on the beach after the dolphins? I am debating on doing this or just going to Atlantis beach for the day...hmmm???

I'm kind of worried about the food...everyone seems to be complaining. My husband and inlaws are food snobs...so i'm sure they are going to complain about the food...I really hope Disney hears all this complaining and does something about it!!!

Hi luvs2cruz! Thanks for reading. We chose the dolphin encounter because I knew that was something we weren't going to get to do anytime soon again. We have access to water slides/water parks in our area and where we normally vacation. I felt the Atlantis excursion was way too expensive to do something we can do in the summer closer to home. Also, I knew that we were spending the day at Castaway Cay so we would get our water/beach fun time in then. That was just my way of thinking. To answer your question, yes there is a beach right adjacent to the dolphin swim area that had chairs/tables and umbrellas to use. It looked very nice and you could use the bathrooms and food stand at the encounter area. We thougth about stayng but the kids were set on swimming at the pools on ship. Please be sure to really use tons of sunscreen if you do Atlantis. My girls were burned really quickly on Castaway Cay even after 4 applications of #50.
It really pains me to critisize the food so much. I really tried to love it, but just couldn't. The menus were very limited and some dishes just so out there that I can't imagine anyone ordering. Besides that the taste was just plain lacking. Of the whole trip probably only 3 things stick out in my mind as good.
One was the app I had in AP, it was a little pizza looking thing w/potatoes/bacon and some other stuff on it, another was the shrimp app in Tritons and the choc mousse in Tritons. That's it, the rest was forgetable.
I also hope Disney gets the hint although they won't get any info from those surveys they hand out on board...I wonder if that was intentional?!?
Either way you will have a fabulous time. They could have fed me bread and water and I would have still had a wonderful time. It's really fun!

Thanks Sandy! I think we just might do the Dolphin Encounter because it's something my inlaws can do too! I'm not really cruising for the food...so I don't think I'll be too disappointed! Have a great weekend! :)

Thanks for the info. We are in the process of planning our 1st cruise so I'm trying to read as much as I can.

Taste of food aside, how did you like the late seating? Our kids will be 7, 11, and 14 at the time of travel and I was considering choosing this over the early seating. I was thinking my youngest would be more awake for the shows and she really doesn't care too much one way or the other about the food.

Good to hear about the Dolphin Encounter. We are debating between that and the Dolphin Swim. Not sure if it's worth the extra $ for the swim or not.

Thanks again!

SmallWorld71- Thanks for reading! Congrats on your 1st cruise. This was our 1st Cruise too. We absolutely loved late seating, especially on this short cruise we took. My girls are 9 and the other kids were 9 and 6. We saw all 3 shows prior to dinner and really enjoyed that best. We weren't full and sleepy! Our daytime just seemed longer because we didn' t have to rush to get ready for dinner. No one ever fell asleep at the dinner table in our group, but they weren't fussing about going back to the cabin to get ready for bed! My DH (who, by the way, is a "dinner by 5 or not at all" kind of guy) and I both said several times on the cruise how happy we were with late seating and wouldn't do it any other way. So I hope that helps. As for the encounter verses swim:no one who was on the early excursion did the swim, so I can't say if it's worth it. Our trainer kind of made a vague comment that it wasn't much more than what we were getting. I can't remember his exact words but what ever he said made me think to myself:1. I'm glad we didn't go for the swim and 2. boy, I bet he'd get in trouble if a higher up heard him say that. Anyway, you'll have a great time whatever you decide. We are so happy we did this excursion. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Thanks for the reply. :goodvibesOur cruise isn't until next year, so I have plenty of time to think about it. But, I'm definitely leaning towards the late dining. I figure DD would really enjoy the shows more than the dinners, so I'd rather have her wide awake for that. She can always go to the Club if she doesn't want to sit in the dining room.

The reviews I've seen about the Dolphin Encounter have all been positive, but most of them have had young kids so it is good to know yours enjoyed it. With 5 of us, it's a big jump in $ to go up to the swim, so I'll have to wait and see what else everyone wants to do. :thumbsup2

Thanks for sharing!!:goodvibes
We just booked a 3 nt for March for a little winter escape. I've never been on the Wonder and looking forward to seeing new sights.

BTW, for future cruises and to anyone interested:
If you rent a tube and decide you'd rather have a float, just walk down to where they hand them out and they'll let you exchange. Don't ever feel like you're stuck with what you have.

ruadisneyfan2: A winter getaway what a great idea!! Oh how I would love to talk my DH into that! Also, I had thought about trading in a tube for a float but wasn't sure if they would go for it. I didn't want to send my DH all the way back down there for nothing. He would have really not beent too happy with me! Of course I guess I could have done it but I was too bust drinking my konk cooler and soaking up the rays!! Yes, I was a little lazy that day! Thanks again and I can't wait to hear about your trip!

He's only going for it cuz we have almost $300 in credits with SWA plus a RT flight award, all expiring by mid April. :woohoo: We'd never pay reg price flights for all 4 of us for only 3 nts. He's knows I cry to have them go to waste so I'd prob. go w/o him if he didn't want to go. lol!:upsidedow

You had me laughing out loud with the part about your MIL's bag being treated like a bomb. :rotfl2: I can just imagine that! :rotfl:
My husband and I are doing out first 3 day cruise after 2 7day ones. We're not bringing our kids either. We'll have late dining for the first time. I'm looking forward to not rushing through the day to get ready to eat.
We haven't ever had bad or so so food but as you said - if I don't have to fix it, serve it or clean it up, it's all good.
Angie

Hi Angie! Thanks for reading. Yep, my MIL's lost carry on just about put me over the edge that day. We were positive nothing else could go wrong after our troubles with Airtran but boy were we wrong...it will definitely be one of our most memorable trips!! Enjoy your cruise without the kids. We may try that sometime, too.
