We did our first rope drop on Sunday at MK and all I can say is WOW. We we're nearly run down by and crowd of people literately sprinting to get where they wanted to go. I have to assume there's been injuries since Disney plays a "don't run" message over the loud speakers. The whole experience reminded me of the Black Friday videos you see where people get trampled for a $99 flat screen.

If you decide to do a rope drop be careful - you will be pushed aside and maybe even knocked down when they open the gates. The funny part is there's really no need for all the crazy running. We stepped aside, let the commandos go first and still finished the whole park by noon.

Some people are crazy. "I'm sorry officer, I didn't mean to trample that small child, but I just couldn't go on living if I had to wait in a 5 minute queue for Dumbo."

Enjoy your trip! Watch out for the crazies! :goodvibes

We always do rope drop and we never had a negative experience. Sometimes it has been crowded but not pushing or anything of that sort.

We avoid rope drop for this reason. Our plan is always to eat inside the park at 8am on a non-EMH day to avoid these situations.

Whoa, thanks for the warning! I cannot believe people would RUN. That's insane.

I think rope drop is going to be a "bucket list" thing for us. We mainly did it because we were worried Isaac would banish us to our hotel on mon. or tues and we wanted to get as much park time as possible. Isaac has had zero affect - we're having a BLAST!!! :)

Ha ha! Thanks we are having so much fun here!!!

when we took our keys to the kingdom tour, we were sitting in that alley off of Main Street where you can hear the piano music when rope drop happened, and our tour guide actually stopped his spiel, and told us his favorite part of the day is sitting where we were watching people go running up main street, because most of them started to lose their fuel right around the point where we were sitting, and sure enough, they did - hilarious to watch. That said, no one was pushing anyone or anything like that, just funny to watch the realization on those faces that there was no need to be running.

I call the one at HS the "running of the bulls".

Op, glad you're ok. rope drop has always been highly overrated for my family but I chuckle when I read these stories.

I had the same experience on my KTTK tour! I wonder if the people huffing & puffing & sweating up Main Street realize that they are "live entertainment" for other guests, every bit as riveting as Jersey Shore. :rotfl2:

With that said, I didn't really see any running. It was more like that awkward fast-walking that I can't believe they give Olympic medals for...

I've never seen running at RD, even at HS and EP when they used to have a true rope drop. Fast walking, yes. Running, no.

So if MK opens at 9:00, you can enter Main Street and have a lil breakfast before then? I thought they did away with this being allowed. It would be really nice I was wrong!!!!;)

Last November we got to the Studios at rope drop and had our teen daughters run for fast passes at Toy Story Mania. They didn't push anyone but they did run.

I used to work at Filene's Basement in Boston. During the bridal sale (running of the brides) we instructed our employees to stay back out of the aisles so they wouldn't get trampled. Security used to do a rope drop at the doors but stopped it when people got tangled trying to run before the rope was fully down.

It was insane what the women would do for a cheap dress.

You can have a pre-park hours breakfast at a TS meal at one of the MK restaurants. Not just getting in early for something at the Main Street bakery. This is true of any park, not just MK.

We make very good use of the MK ropedrop by getting on the horsetrolly right there at the Main Street Square. The lemmings do rush past as the OP states, but one of the under-appreciated WDW treats is the trolly ride to the Castle. I've filmed the trip many times, it's the one vacation video guaranteed to put me 'in the moment', and the ironic thing is that for the most part, we're passing the fools who rushed by as we go, arriving at the hub relaxed and ready to go.

Anytime I say this I get yelled out by Rope Dropers, but I'll say it anyways. Rope Drop stinks! I don't wanna wake up early on vacation. We get to the parks between 11 and 12 and see every ride we want to with minimal waits. We always have a plan and use FP, though.

In fact, last time we were at WDW, we didn't wait longer than 25 minutes and we saw every ride we wanted to at each of the four parks.

I do, however, think it's a good idea for those who don't mind getting up early and don't want to spend the majority of the day in the park (11am or 12pm to 7 or 8 or 9pm), which is why I build it into the DPP touring plans. I am simply responding to what the "masses" are doing even though I'd don't enjoy doing it myself.

That reminds me of my one (and only, to date) trip to Disneyland. At rope drop, after I complimented his engine, the chief gave me a private ride in Walt's fire engine all the way down Main Street to the Hub. I'm not even pretending I didn't tear up when he got out & took pictures of me behind the wheel in front of the castle. I gladly missed out on a walk-on Peter Pan ride to have that experience!

To each their own, but I love Rope Drop. I have never seen running (well, maybe a very light jog) or pushing. Everyone has been polite and well mannered. I love the excitement and energy that everyone, from guests to the CMs, has. It has always been an amazing experience for us.

I remember years ago being at rope drop and running with my mom & sister to get in line for Space Mountain (this was 1986!). We had a blast just trying to see how quick we could get in line.
Last year I was in the BBB with DD and DH was walking DS around in his stroller outside the castle and couldn't believe everyone running! I just had to laugh knowing I did this years ago!
