Our 1st DVC trip coming soon!

We bought BLT, but are using our DPs in August at SSR.
Prior to SSR we will spend 5 days on the beach near Tampa then drive over to SSR, so we will do our own "cheaper" shopping. To use up the DPs, we are staying 3 nights in a 3bedroom Grand Villa even though there are only 6 of us. It me and my wife, 16yr old son, 14yr old daughter and 9 yr old son & daughter.
We are really excited, but having a hard time figuring out what to expect. We are not doing any parks, just relaxing in pools, may be shopping at downtown Disney.
I am looking for any tip, pointers, etc. on what to do/expect to make this a magical trip for all of us.

Lucky you! Those SSR GVs are gorgeous! SSR is the perfect place for a no-parks, relaxing vacation, IMO. It's nice to be so close to DTD. Your kids might like DisneyQuest, or maybe you could see La Nouba one evening. The spa is terrific, also. We loved spending afternoons by the pool. We were in the Grandstand area and spent most of the time at that pool, as it was much less crowded than the main pool.

All we really had was the quick original tour at SSR.
How do things like video rentals work? Any good?
What about other activities for the kids?

video rentals are done in community hall as well as some of the activities for kids. Last year my 4 year old granddaughter made ice cream right outside community hall by the pool during the afternoon. SSR is her favorite resort!
