Our 10 yr. old twins take on the World-For Spring Break. Update 05/19-The End

Day 7- Evening- Ending our trip with Wishes Spectacular

Tonight was going to be our last night at Walt Disney World, and of course we chose to spend it at The Magic Kingdom.

We left CBR about 6:30, and actually got on a MK bus right away. Yay, we were on our way. We didn’t eat dinner yet, so we were planning on getting something at MK.

When we passed through the turnstyles, there was a CM standing there and asking if anyone wanted a celebration button. She asked Matthew and Megan what they were celebrating. And, they said No school for a week! So, she wrote “Spring Break”. Their button said, I’m celebrating Spring Break.
DisneyWorld2010303.jpg

We saw a Photo pass Photographer up front by the Mickey head flowers, so we had to stop and take some pictures of course.
Image0622.jpg

We got to Main Street, and it was a bit crowded. You could tell the Spring break crowd was in full force tonight.

DisneyWorld2010308.jpg

Love the balloons

We weren’t planning on doing a lot of rides tonight because we didn’t have any fast passes. So, we were just going to soak it all in, and ride whatever we could throughout the evening. The main goal was WISHES at 10:00.

DisneyWorld2010311.jpg

On our way to Adventureland.

We walked through Adventureland, and noticed Pirates was a 5 minute wait, so we went on that first. We were surprised that Pirates never had a wait. At Disneyland there always seems to be some kind of line.

We walked around a little and then walked towards Fantasyland to see how long Peter Pan was. 75 minutes !! I don’t think we’ll be doing that ride this trip. Since the kids are 10, they aren’t really interested in any Fanstasyland rides anymore, which is fine by us. As long as we do Philharmagic than I am happy. :3dglasses

We walked by Small world, and the wait was 5 minutes. I looked at Cliff and Matthew and they were trying to hurry by. So, of course I had to drag them in kicking and screaming. Ha Ha, just a little grumble from the boys. Neither one of them really likes Small World, and would never wait in a long line. But, 5 minutes they could handle. So, we got on right away and I got pictures of Cliff enjoying the ride and whistling along.
DisneyWorld2010317.jpg

DisneyWorld2010319.jpg

We were getting a bit hungry and walked around to see what struck our fancy. While walking around we headed to Main Street and took pictures in front of the castle at night.
Image0624.jpg

The kids weren’t really hungry, so I got them pretzals with cheese. Cliff and I got a Chili dog with fries from the Friars Nook. It was actually pretty good, but we were getting tired of junk food by this time.

We walked to Frontierland to see how long the line would be for Big Thunder Mtn. The wait was 20 minutes. We could handle that. So we did our last BTM ride that night.

The wait for Splash Mtn was 15 minutes. I had no desire to get on that and be wet the rest of the night so I passed. The plan was for Cliff and kids to ride Splash, while I would walk to Main Street to save a spot for Wishes.

On my walk to Main Street, Sprectro the parade was happening. So, I had to walk my way along the water’s edge to get past it. It wasn’t too bad; most people were watching the parade while I was walking past them. On my quest to the Castle, I started smelling some yummy cinnamon goodness. I passed sleepy hollow and low and behold, that’s where they sell Funnel Cakes! I hadn’t had a funnel cake yet. Yay! Yay! :woohoo: I love funnel Cakes. So, I got myself a yummy, fried, cinnamon, messy, funnel cake!

I found a spot right in front of the castle, plopped myself down on the curb and ate my Funnel Cake all by myself. I really couldn’t eat it all, so I saved the rest for my family. It wouldn’t be hot, but they might enjoy it still.

Cliff had called and said the wait was really only 5 minutes for splash. (They did wear their ponchos) At the end of the ride, they had the option to not get off and go again. Pretty Cool!

So, I just sat and people watched while I waited ……………………………….. There are some interesting characters at WDW, and I don’t mean Disney Characters either. Some families are tired and cranky. Teenagers with some questionable conversations. Kids screaming and crying, they were done hours ago. Then some children laughing and singing. Babies asleep in strollers. Some conversations in different languages probably observing me, wondering how I made such a mess with powder sugar and cinnamon! Ha, Ha, :rotfl2: It really is fun to people watch.

Cont'd from previous post:

Cliff called; they were done with splash and walking towards the castle. We had about 10 minutes before the show started. Megan and Matthew finished my funnel cake, which I’m sure isn’t as good when it’s not hot.

Then, it was time for Wishes! My all-time favorite.
DisneyWorld2010324.jpg

DisneyWorld2010327.jpg

I also got a good picture of the castle at night on my cell phone. It is now my wallpaper for my cell phone, it’s a great picture. I recorded the whole thing so I can watch it over and over. Funny thing is, I have the whole thing recorded from Disneyland in January ’09. Now I have Wishes from Disneyland and Disneyworld. Cool!

After wishes we just stood around and waited for the crowds to thin out.
DisneyWorld2010328.jpg

While waiting for crowds to thin out

Cliff was getting tired, but was trying to hang in there for our last night.
We went on Stitch next, because the line was only about 5 minutes at that point.

By then it was 11:00 and Cliff was done. Cliff asked Matthew if he wanted to go back to the room, and Matthew said “NO!” There was my Disney son! So, Cliff left and we went and got a coke to caffeinate ourselves, especially Matthew. He would need it. :rolleyes1

We did Fantasyland for our last hour. The kids went on the teacups, that is a ride I haven’t done in years. I do not like going round and round!
DisneyWorld2010330.jpg

DisneyWorld2010332.jpg

It seemed like Fantasyland was deserted at that time of night. It was a huge difference compared to earlier in the day! So, we thought this would be our chance for Peter Pan. Wrong! The wait was 40 Minutes! That must have been where everyone was in fantasyland.

So, we did Philharmagic because we love it so much. There were about 20 of us in the waiting area. We were all sitting on the floor while we waited. Everyone was tired. We got our choice of seats once we went in the auditorium.

Next was Winnie the pooh, which we walked right on.
Then the kids wanted to check out the pins one last time on mainstreet. By that time the park was closing. Nooooooooo…………….

We went into the candy store to buy a big carmel, chocolate, nutty apple and some rice crispy treats to take home the next day!

We slowly walked down mainstreet, with a few other people that didn’t want to leave either. We got to the beginning of main street and I was videotaping the kids saying good-bye to Disneyworld and that we wouldn’t be back for 5 more years.

Matthew and Megan would be 15 when we go back! Wow. I cannot imagine that at all. But, when we were leaving WDW when the kids were 5, we could not imagine coming back with 10 year olds either. And, here we were. Time goes by so fast. We have to hang on to the precious times that we have at the present and enjoy them!

So, while I’m videotaping the kids one of the CM’s walks by behind the kids. He’s about 24, and then a few seconds later he comes back and acts like he is crying while saying good-bye to WDW. And, he says “ Oh Boy!” in a perfect Mickey Mouse voice. It was perfect! We loved it. And, it was a great way to end our video.

We took some last pictures on main street.

Disney Robin was sad to leave, too !

And, then we had to leave Magic Kingdom. We slowly made our way to the exits. Our DisneyWorld trip has come to an end. What a week we had. What memories we have made. The magic, the fun, and happy memories were part of our great adventure for Spring Break 2010.

We took our time getting to the bus, and got back to our room by 12:30. Cliff was out, and didn’t even stir as we got ready for bed that night. We fell asleep exhausted, but so content and happy on our last night at Disney.:cloud9:

Tomorrow: Our departure day, we say good-bye to CBR and one last trip to Downtown Disney

Wow, that sure sounds like a great end to your vacation. Coming back with teenagers....well, that won't be so bad. I know me and my sibs weren't that bad, but then our parents didn't have to look after us either...

I always love pictures of the balloons. Questionable convos from teenagers? I've heard a few of them before....kids sure are growing up fast, eh?

I can't believe we're at the end. :sad2: I can't imagine waiting five years between trips. :scared1: After my trip in October I don't have another planned until DD graduation in 2013, but as my DH said I didn't plan on any after my 2007 trip until this years and I've had three in between soooo...... I guess I never know, because if the chance presents itself I'm going! :rotfl:

I am actually typing up our last day. :thumbsup2

I haven't forgotten about my trip report. :goodvibes

We've been busy with end of the school year activities, sports, and my Grandpa passed away last week. So, it's been a rough week. But, we're getting everything back on schedule again, and back to our routines.

So, stay tuned. I will post our Departure day soon ! :rolleyes1

My condolances to family for the loss of your grandpa

School's over already? Wow. In Canada, school usually goes till end of June for the kids

Great TR - thank you so much for sharing your trip :)

Your title drew me in - I have twins that are 6, and a 10 year old.

And, I *LOVE* the balloon photo pass photos! I've never seen those - did you just tell the photopass photographer that you wanted the balloon prop?

Thanks so much - looking forward to hearing more!

No, we didn't ask, he just kept taking a bunch of different pictures with him. He was great! Some of the photographers were really great with us. Some, just took your picture, and sent you on your way. We stopped at every photographer we could find. It was fun ! :thumbsup2

Our last day- Departure day. :sad1:

March 18th, - Thursday

Well today was our last day of Walt Disney World. I could not believe our much anticipated trip has come to an end.

We slept in late one last time, oh about 8:00. We had a good night sleep, but I did get woken up during the night.

At about 4:45 I heard Matthew shuffling around on his side of the room. I could hear him feeling around for his slippers. So, I figured he was going to the bathroom. And, then I heard him get up, and then walk in front of our bed towards the door. I was thinking, “Where does he think he is going?” I said, “Matt, what are you doing?” He said, he was going to the bathroom. I told him that was the door to go outside. So, he turned around and went the opposite direction, to the bathroom. Oh, that boy! :sad2: I think when he is really tired, he is totally out of it! He didn’t even remember that next morning that he had tried to escape the night before.

Our flight was departing at 2:40, so we didn’t have to rush this morning. But, I still had all our stuff to pack up. We had so much stuff around the room and only 3 suitcases to stuff it in. Cliff really didn’t think it would all fit. Plus, we had to make sure none of the suitcases were over 50 lbs. I can do it!

We got ready and had our last breakfast in our room. We did pretty good on our breakfast items, we almost finished it all. We had some milK and waters left. But, we ate all the cereal, bagels, and cereal bars during the week.

It really seemed to take forever to pack up all our stuff. While I packed, Cliff took the kids around CBR one last time.
DisneyWorld2010345.jpg

DisneyWorld2010338.jpg

CBR is such a pretty resort. Would love to be there in warmer weather, and just lay in a hammock with a yummy drink!

When Cliff got back I had everything packed up, and it all fit. I had also brought a rolling duffel bag with us, so that was filled with all our souvenirs. And, if was stuffed. That bag we carried on the plane with us, it had lots of valuables, like my new Mickey purse!
DisneyWorld2010121.jpg

Had to show my cool purse again.

Cliff couldn’t believe that everything was packed up and ready to go. We looked around one last time to make sure we got everything, and then we said good-bye to our home for the past week.
DisneyWorld2010336.jpg

DisneyWorld2010337.jpg

It's time to leave CBR.

We left CBR, and headed to DTD. We had about an hour and a half to walk around and absorb the last of Disney. We walked by the candy store and drooled.

DisneyWorld2010347.jpg

Oh, I wish I had one now!

Megan bought some Italian ice.
DisneyWorld2010351.jpg

Matthew had to get a picture with the dragon.
DisneyWorld2010354.jpg

And, Matthew discovered that there were some Puffle pins. Yay!
DisneyWorld2010357.jpg

For all the Club Penguins fans

We went into Trend-D, there was so many things I could have bought in there. But, I had run out of money by this point.
DisneyWorld2010356-1.jpg

Megan bought some pink sunglasses

We went into Once upon a Toy. The kids made a Mr. Potato Head.
DisneyWorld2010358-1.jpg

And, Disney Robin shopped one last time.
DisneyWorld2010362.jpg

We took more pictures with pooh and friends.
DisneyWorld2010365.jpg

We said good-bye to World of Disney. We did lots of damage in that store.
DisneyWorld2010367.jpg

We couldn’t put it off anymore. We had to go …………………………….. We got some gas in our rental car, and drove to the airport. We had no problems with traffic or returning our car. We did hit two tolls, so we used the last of our quarters for that. We definitely wouldn’t miss the toll booths.

We checked in our luggage curbside, which had no line at all. Also, at curbside they didn’t weigh our luggage. (when we got home, our big luggage was 52 lbs.!) We walked in the airport and noticed the SW airlines line was very long to check in. For a couple of dollars, they could go outside and be done in just a few minutes. We told a few people as we walked by them, and they left their long line and went outside to check in.

WE had an hour and half to wait so we went to the food court and ate Sbarros for lunch. Then went to our gate to wait for our flight. I wrote some notes about our last day, and then everyone started lining up for our flight.

I gave Cliff and the kids their boarding passes, because I needed to go to the bathroom very badly. By the time I finished and got back, Cliff and the kids had already boarded. I got in front of the “B” section, and walked right on.

Megan had saved me a seat next to her. I sat down, and started to take out my anti-bacterial wipes, and she said. “I already wiped your seat Mom” Did you get my pull down tray? “Yes, Mom”. Oh, my baby girl, she is her Mommy’s daughter. :cloud9:

We had a very uneventful flight home.

I did have one surprise on the plane. Cliff handed me our laptop, and told me to look at some pictures that he had taken during our trip. I had no idea that he had taken any of them.

I laughed and laughed. I loved them so much. Some people were turning to see what was going on. I love surprises!

We got home by 4:30 Albuquerque time. This is the kids and I waiting for my mom to pick us up.
DisneyWorld2010373.jpg

This is Cliff and the kids waiting for my mom to pick us up.
DisneyWorld2010374.jpg

It was really nice to be home, but we already missed Disney. Cliff was excited because my Mom was making Red Chile Enchiladas for dinner. He really misses his New Mexican food while he is on vacation.

So, that night we went to my mom’s for dinner. For dessert we had a Disney Caramel apple with chocolate and pecans. And, also some mini rice krispy treats with hidden Mickeys on them for dessert. And, we passed out souvenirs to everyone. Everyone enjoyed their Disney desserts and souvenirs, as we told them all about our Disney adventures.

And, that was officially the end of our WDW Spring Break of 2010.

Final thoughts:

The crowds weren’t as bad as I thought they would be for Spring break, but we did get there early each day, and took full advantage of our fastpasses.

I would have enjoyed the weather to be warmer, especially so we could have taken advantage of the water parks.

I’m glad we rented a car, we really used it a lot. I have found out since our Trip that my other Visa platinum card would have covered our rental car. Disney Chase does not cover your rental car.

I don’t think there are any foods that I regretted not trying. We tried it all! Proof of that is: Cliff gained 8 pounds, and I gained 5! Wow, what oinkers we were. popcorn::

All the planning I did before our trip really came in handy, and I thank everyone on these boards for such great information.

We won’t be back till 2015, with two 15 year olds! Aaaaggggghhhhh….. We’ll have to save even more for that trip, we will be spending so much more just on food!

We will probably rent a condo for that trip, and we will also be doing Universal and Disney. The kids will be older and will want to do more adventurous kind of rides. And, for sure we will do the water parks on that trip. And, we will make it a longer vacation to get everything done.

Well, now that I am done with my trip report. I will now start a scrapbook. I wasn’t going to do a scrapbook, but I did one in 2005, and Cliff and the kids have told me that they expect one for this trip also. Um, OK, I’m not that busy. :sad2: So, we will see how long that takes.

My 40th birthday will be this January, and I decided that I want to take a 4 day cruise out of LA. Just Cliff and I. Well, that cruise comes back on my actual birthday, so I told Cliff that we will just have to spend the day in Disneyland. Yay! :yay: And, hopefully eat dinner at the Blue Bayou. Won’t that be a great way to spend my 40th!!

So, for now I just want to thank each one of you for following my family and I on one of our best vacations ever! I will still be on the Dis Boards from time to time to see how each of your vacations have turned out, and just to feel some of the magic through other trips reports to Walt Disney World.

So, you will see me back on the boards in four years, getting ready to plan our WDW trip for the year 2015. Yikes! :scared1: But, you never know, if the opportunity arises I may just go sometime before that.

Good-bye folks, and thank you for joining us on our adventure!

Awesome trip report! I enjoyed reading each and every bit of it and hopefully you guys enjoy your next WDW vacation as much as you did this one!

Great trip report Robyn!

It sure sounds like a great way to spend your 40th birthday - I hope you have a great time!

Thanks again for sharing :thumbsup2

It's always sad to leave WDW but if you have an adventure planned in the near future, it helps but waiting until 2015 :scared1: It seems so far away but then time does fly by fast (it was 11 years before I could go back to WDW and then I went twice that same year.)

Hopefully we will find that you get to go sooner than 2015! Don't be a stranger on the boards :)

Wonderful trip report ! I enjoyed it such a lovely family !

Awww, it's always so sad to come home from Disney. Glad you had such a fun trip!
Writing this trip report helped me get past the Disney Blues. :sad1:
