Ouch! Do you ever do this?

I just stepped down the hall to grab a soda. When stepping to one side to let someone else pass, I accidently stepped on the side of my foot (my foot twisted inward 45 degrees so that I literally placed my weight on the side of my foot). I do this accidently all this time and it hurts! I kept worry I'm going to break or sprain my ankle when I do this, but it hasn't happened do far.

Do you ever step on the side of your foot like this? Have you ever been injured by it?

I'm prone to that, too.

The one time I really twisted it was during my studies in France. That wasn't easy with all the walking I had to do.

Make sure you are getting enough calcium for your bones. Really old people need lots of calcium!:jester: :jester:

Have you thought about getting yourself a cane? Or better yet a walker? People at your advanced age can not be too careful!!

Nah, I'm too set in my ways to try something new like calcium supplements or a walker. :jester:

Hey shoot for the moon and go out and buy one of those personal old people mo-peds(as my neice calls them) save your old bones the risk of walking.

Oh and btw my FIL has one and man they are cool to move around in when ya want to be lazy. I will say everyone in the house would ride in it just to be lazy.

The Rascal!

Yep, but according to my doctor (I have sprained my ankle quite a few times this way and broken it twice and it's always my right ankle) it happens to me because my right leg is a little shorter than my left leg, not because I'm old like you ;) (I'm only 26.)

well I will obviously have to shun you from now on. I can't be friends, even virtually, with someone who is that deformed....what would people think? ;) ;) ;)

It is bad enough that I consort with old foggies like WDWHound over there... of course I am only doing that because I know at his age he is bound to die soon anyways, and I am hoping that I can weasel my way into a bit of inheritance by being such a good DIS Pal!!!

Yep thats the one....Rascal to the rescue!!!

I hate when I do that. I've never seriously injured my ankle yet, though. It really hurts!

LOL, Disney 845....I was hit by a car when I was 5 and my hip was broken (there would have been even more difference if they hadn't done surgery when I was 11 to stop me from growing.)

Notice that she posted this in small print, probably hoping my aged eyes would not be able to read it. Well it didn't work missy! Your share of the $8.95 just went bye bye. (Young people these days, no respect for their elders).

It is comforting to know that I am not the only one who performs this not so graceful maneuver, but its not so comforting to hear it can result in a broken ankle. I'm going to have to be more careful.

Please don't admit this to the kid at work that thinks us 42 year olds are old and set in our ways. If you do hurt yourself doing this tell him your injury was caused while dunking a basketball (no need to tell him the rim was only 6 feet tall).

And to answer your question. No I have never done this but it does happen to DH on occasion. He has sprained both ankles several times so he just assumed it was because the muscles were weak.

A few years ago DH and DS were having a rubber dart gun fight in the hall. Well DH felt DS was hording darts so Dh decided on a sneak attack that involved leaping over DS. To make a long story short DS moved while DH was jumping and DH landed on his foot in this sideways manner. As the doctor was putting on the cast he told DH to come up with a more dramatic story to impress the guys at work.

Ouch! Last summer while on vacation at the beach, I turned my ankle on the edge of the sidewalk. It was not like i went off the side of a 6 inch curb, just a 1/4 inch sidewalk, but I must have turned it a certain way. I have done this many times, but this was the worst. My ankle swelled up and it never got back to normal for 6 weeks

I did that and tore a ligament in my ankle. I would have been better off if I had broken my ankle. My foot and ankle swelled and bruised and it took a very, very long time to heal (much longer than a break.) I had to go to an orthopedist who made me wear a brace for a while and gave me exercises to do. It's better now, but my injured ankle is still larger than the other.

I took this picture a few days after I hurt it...
