OTU Points

We have a 100pt SSR contract and we are planning to use 60 pts in April 2020 at SSR. We are also planning to go to Aulani in April of 2021. I would like to have as many pts available as possible for the Aulani trip so I'm planning to borrow 100 from my 2022 year so that I will have 200 plus I can bank 40 from 2020 for a total of 240. My questions is can I buy 24 OTU points for my 2020 trip so that I can bank 64 pts instead of 40 for 2021? I am unclear as to whether you have to have to use up all of your points before you can buy some.

OTU points can be purchased at the 7 month window for a reservation.
You can purchase max 24 points at $19.00 per point.

Normally you can’t get the OTUP before you have used up your own points.

A work around for that’s is to book a dummy reservation and then get the 24 OTUP. OTUP can be reallocated from one reservation to another just like regular points.

Since Aulani would be a non-home resort, 7 month reservation and OTUP have to be bought at 7 months, why not just wait to get them for that reservation? Con - price could go up; pro - you might not end up needing 24.
