I will try to explain this as clearly as possible...

Current reservations:
Sunday/Monday night
*Room #1: Standard studio at AKV-Jambo
*Room #2: Standard studio at AKV-Jambo

Tue/Wed/Thur nights: 2BR standard at Kidani

These were booked at the 11 month mark. At 7 months, I would like to purchase 14 OTU points so that we can have the following reservation..
...Su/Mo in a 2BR standard at AKV-Jambo (this is the portion that will need the OTU points)...
...Tues/Wed/Th in a 2BR standard at AKV-Kidani

Here's my question....since I will have to buy the OTU points to change the two nights at Jambo (from 2 studios to a 2BR), will I be able to waitlist a standard 2BR at BWV for those same two nights? It would require the same number of points and they would be points that I already purchased. I understand that you cannot fill a waitlist reservation by purchasing OTU points, but what if those are points that were already purchased to fill a different reservation? Does this make any sense?

:confused3Nobody??? Anybody???

I know a 2BR standard view at BWV during F&W is a pipe dream, but it can't hurt to try, right:goodvibes? I figure since the waitlist would only be for 2 nights (a Sunday and Monday) my chances would be better for it to fill.

I am not sure i understand the question

If I cancel a reservation made with OTU points, what happens to those points? Are they gone or do they expire at the end of my UY?

Subsequently, if I book a reservation using OTU points and wait list the same dates, can those OTU points be used if the wait list fills?

The policy says that OTU points cannot be bought to fill a wait list, but what if they were already bought for a reservation? If that reservation gets cancelled (by the wait list filling) can those OTU points be applied to the new reservation?

If you cancel a reservation that is comprised of OTU points, those points are returned to your account and must be used before the end of your Use Year. The OTU points cannot be banked or borrowed.

You cannot use the OTU points to fulfill a wait list. You can only your own non-OTU points to fulfill a wait list. For example, let's say it cost 200 points to book a 2BR at AKV. If you have only 186 points, you can buy 14 OTU points and book the AKV 2BR villa. However, if you want to subsequently wait list a villa at BWV that cost 195 points, you only can use your 186 points to set up the wait list. Since the BWV villa costs more the 186 points, then you cannot set up the wait list.

The only thing you can hope for is if the BWV villa becomes available and you can book it directly without going on a wait list. You could cancel the AKV reservation and use 195 points, including the 14 OTU points, to reserve the BWV reservation.

Good luck.

....and those 14 OTU points will be like transferred in points, not available to use online. You would have to call MS to use the points.

The only thing in your favor is that you are not planning Columbus Day weekend. Unless I counted wrong. Then you don't have anything in your favor to get those two nights at BWV.

I don't see why not. You are purchasing the points for a confirmed reservation. If your wait list comes through, they will cancel the confirmed reservation and use those same points for your wait listed room. It shouldn't matter that some of those points are OTU points.

When they say OTU points cannot be used to fill a wait list, I assume they mean you cannot request to purchase OTU points at the time your WL is filled. That could get complicated since it could not be allowed if a WL came through more than 7 months from check-in, plus even within 7 months of check-in they would have to call to get the member's credit card information.

In your case, the OTU points would already be in your account and are yours to use through the end of the UY of the original reservation.

ETA: One thing that might be an issue is if you set up a WL more than 7 months out, then when inside the 7-month window make a backup reservation using OTU points with the intention of cancelling that reservation if the WL comes through. In that scenario, one could argue that you should not be allowed to use OTU points to fill that WL since it should require home resort points. I don't know how MS handles this even without the issue of OTU points. If I set up a WL 8 months out for BWV, then commit all my BWV points for another reservation leaving only AKV points to fill the WL and the WL comes through less than 7 months out, do they just use the AKV points to fill that WL?

So let me get this straight you have a reservation that encompasses OTU points, and want to WL another resort for the same time, and what to know if the OTU poibts will carryover from reservation to reservation?

Answer, Call MS but i dont think that they will

I think it does work...recall a thread where someone did it purposely. One time use points are, (I think) in essence a transfer of points from DVD owned points at that specific villa, without counting against your one-time transfer allotment.

Thanks everyone for the help.

I will ask MS when I call to buy the OTU points in March. I am sure that there will be availability for a standard 2BR at AKV for those 2 nights so I am not worried about waitlisting that portion. What I would like to try is to get a standard 2BR at the BWV for those 2 nights instead, which I am sure will require a waitlist. If it doesn't fill, that's OK...we love AKV anyways:goodvibes. I just want to make sure that "it can't hurt to try". I do NOT want them to borrow any of my points from 2015 as I need every single one of them (obviously, or I wouldn't need to buy OUT points:rolleyes1)

If you buy one time use points and then waitlist to replace the reservation that was booked, it will work. As long as you have them purchased and in a reservation, they are eligible for reservations.

What you can not do is waitlist a reservation that requires the purchase of one time points if the wait list fills.
