Ok, DFamily is heading to SoCal in early Aug. spending 3 nights in Anaheim, 4 nights in SanDiego and 1 night in LA so we have access to airport to catch morning flight. My question is what kids of things are there in the Anaheim/LA area to do with kids - son is 3, daughter is 9. We want to do some beaches, but that is what the primary focus of San Diego will be. I just don't know what else to do. HELP! :)

How many days are you planning to spend at Disneyland? If you are only in Anaheim 3 nights, I'm guessing 3 days at DLR? That's pretty much barely enough time to see DLR in August, not leaving much time for anything else.

Will you have a car? If you don't want to do DL the whole time you are in Anaheim, why not venture into L.A?

There's Griffith park. They have train rides, carousel rides, pony rides, museums, the Griffith Observatory ( I love that place), and the L.A. Zoo. There's also Hollywood. I usually see kids jumping in the footsteps and placing there hands in the handprints in front of the Chinese Theater.

The El Capitan theater (across the street from the Chinese theater) is owned by Disney and the last time I was there, there was a show and dance with the characters before the movie started. Sometimes they'll have an exhibit or a play zone area for the kids (depending on the movie that they are playing).

There's also the La Brea Tar Pits and Santa Monica Pier, In Long Beach there's the Aquarium and the Queen Mary (although your 3 yr old might get scared in the Ghost tour).

That's all I can think of for now.

Thanks for your replies...We arrive at 9:30AM on a Wednesday and are leaving to head to San Diego on Saturday for an evening check in. We plan to buy the 3day parkhopper which actually gives us 5 days. We are doing Thursday and Friday all day for sure at DL. We will have a car, so I'm thinking either going to the beach when we get there or head to Griffith park and LaBrea. After dinner in DTD I'd like to head to the parks and sort of get a lay of the lands, watch the Fireworks or maybe Fantasmic! and hit a few rides with reasonable lines. I'll check out Griffith and LaBrea...
