We are staying at POP in October. We are only going to do the MNSSHP and will have some free time. I would love to check out some of the other resorts. Is it okay to do this? Also, I know you can not swim unless you are staying there, but what can you see and do? For example, I would really love to see AKL. Is it possible to see any of the animals if you do not have a room there?

You can go to any resort and visit. If you don't have a car you can take Disney transportation to any of the resorts. If you have a car, let them know at check in and they will give you a parking pass that is good at all theme parks and resorts. Most of the time when you approch the gate of a resort and the guard see's your Disney parking pass , they will just wave you through. You are welcome to try any restaurant and shop in all the stores. I do loads of resort hopping on every trip.

from my experience, just tell the guard you want to see the resort to see if you would want to stay there in the future.. and i've never had any trouble..

we went to AKL to just see it when it opened.. no problems at all.. and yes, you can see the animals..

i guess you could people watch, grab a couple of drinks, arcades, hmmm.. just walking around looking at the different things in the resort will keep you pretty busy.. also, you could buy the hidden mickeys book, and go searching.. they are everywhere..

You can absolutely check out the other resorts. :) I like to go by them for a meal once in a while, but you don't even have to do that. Most resorts have 2 hour parking for people to come look around, or you can take the bus/monorail to other resorts. :)

Sure you can... that is how we always decide which resort is next, depending on budget, of course!

this Aug we're staying at Pop, WL & BCV

we'll also be visiting AKL, Contemp, Poly, Boardwalk & Yacht (maybe Swan & Dolphin too since we'll be over there)

We love visiting the other resorts.
We found last time that if you are staying at one and you have your parking paper on your dash they don't even ask you anything... they just sent us on through at a couple of resorts. :confused3
We enjoy going to the CR and then taking the monorail to the GF and the Poly.
We also enjoy going into the different gift shops!

I always plan to visit other resorts when I go solo. Last trip I rode the monorail all around the resort loop and got out at each one. I found a fantastic little spot of beach between the Poly and GF where I basked in the sun and watched the monorail and water mice. I also took a relaxing walk around CSR (I just love the Ranchos section, so different from home!), and ate breakfast at Boatwright's in POR - after walking around the gorgeous grounds there, as well. I hope to check out the Epcot area resorts next time, and spend more time at AKL after returning to Boma for dinner. I bring a book with me so that I can sit and soak up the atmosphere of any really great spots. :)
