We are exploring becoming a DVC Member and I have question that hopefully I can trouble you regular posters with.

As we live in Chicago we like to get out of town during the grueling winter (Nov/Dec/Jan) months. Trust me when I say Chicago is not so fun during this time unless you like snow and sub zero temperatures.

My wife and I own our own business and as such we have the wonderful luxury and flexibility of being able to set our own vacation times.

In fact, we are pretty much thinking if we go with becoming DVC members that moving forward we can just pick and plan on going to Disney World at the same week every year making our trip sort of an annual family tradition.

Turns out the because of the above factors, the time frame we would target to go would be during what Disney tags as Adventure Season (The first of second week of Dec) or maybe Choice Season (the first through second week of Nov)

As such I was wondering what your take is on availability at the other Disney Vacation Resorts would be like if our home resort is SS because this would be non-peak time.

By that I mean obviously if we buy into SS that will be our our home resort and I do understand the 7 Month window limit but when seven months comes around are we going to be able to call in and say we want to book at WLV or BYC and get a villa?

Does availability lighten up considerably during off peak times.

What is your experience in booking rooms other than your home resort. Do you usually get what you want or do you have to re-arrange your trip to do so.

I guess I'm slightly worried we all always be forced to stay as SS please let me know how you feel about that.

Additionally can anyone give me a fair take on what the weather is like during The first of second week of Dec and the first through second week of Nov

Dec 1-14 is not off season for DVC's.

it is probably the most requested time.

so definitely make your reservations at the 11 month for SSR - and you can try to change to the other DVC resorts - but don't be disppointed if you can't.

remember even if they can change you it might 40 days before or less - so don't give up hope.

Oct/Nov is the wine and food festavial at Epcot - so again very popular with DVC member.

always remember the wait list if you can't get what you want immediately at the 7 month time. there is always hope.

Jan is probably the best time (of the months you have listed) to try to get the other resorts. (just as long as it is not the 1st or MLK)

At night, it will get down into (at least) the 40s / 50s just about every day throughout December and january. During the day, it's totally unpredictable. It could be in the low-70s and very plesant, or it could be in the 50s, rainy and cold. The days when you can wear shorts and a t-shirt in December and January are few and far between. And, even if the forecast is favorable, it won't get into the 60s / 70s until the middle of the day when the sun is high.

The closer you get to the summer season, the better it gets. February and November will certainly be better than Jan & Dec on average.

A lot of it just depends on your expectations. My personal philosophy is that it REALLY detracts from my vacation if I can't be in shorts and a t-shirt 90% of the time. I can handle rain...but cold doesn't do much for me. Even if it's 20 degrees back home in Ohio, 50-60 degrees in Florida isn't much of an improvement in my eyes.
