Did any of you have any cramping or stomach pains the first trimester? I just found out I'm pregnant on Friday and have been kinda crampy the last 2 days. No bleeding or spotting at all and it's pretty light cramping. TMI, but I've been a little bit constipated too. I feel like a hypochondriac because I didn't feel it at all until I got a positive test. Everything I've read says it's pretty normal, but I can't remember having it with my last pregnancy (8 years ago). My dr appt isn't for almost 2 weeks.

I think I forgot what it's like worrying about every little thing until you get to see and feel the baby.

I had a lot of cramping at the begining. It's totally normal but it's hard not to stress about stuff like that. I hope you have a happy and healthy nine months!

I had lots of cramping and like you it concerned me. It was normal and everything was fine. I actually had more intense cramps with my second pregnancy.

I'm not currently pregnant, and I did not have cramping with my first pregnancy, but did with subsequent pregnancies. It's completely normal.

I just found out I'm (UNEXPECTEDLY) pregnant with my fifth. Yes, I am very crampy at the beginning right around the time I should be having my cycle and terribly so right after I miss it. It then gradually subsides. I also get shooting pains or stitches if I try to stand up to quickly or bend for something. It is all the normal stretching of the ligaments and uterus.

Thank you all! I will feel so much better about this in a couple months!

No offence to any of the previous posters but check with your OB. It may be perfectly normal but that is for the doctor to find out.

I remember having menstrual like cramps at the beginning of each of my pregnancies. Congrats!!

I also just found out that I am pregnant and am having very bad cramps as well. I don't have a doctor's appointment for another 2 weeks either. This is my second pregnancy and I don't remember the cramps being this bad as the first. However, I found out from a little online research that the cramping is just our uterus' stretching back into position faster. Congratualtions!

I had some cramping too. I agree that if you are worried you should call your OB, but it is probably fine. Congratulations!

I cannot remeMber if I did my first two pregnancies, but I do for my second two since both were preceded with m/c and I focuses on every cramp and twitch. It is very normal to experience and not a concern if there isn't spotting or the pain is unbearable (vs achy and annoying). If you are concerned, a internall ultrasound could be done to at least confirm present condition. But that isn't typical standard of care. My last o/b does them as standard of care at the 8 week visit to confirm/date the pregnancy. By week 10 or so, he was able to do traditional u/s to check h/b if Doppler wasn't picking it up yet.

I did beta testing with my son--but that was from reading to many pregnancy boards. That too is not standard either unless you have had 3 or more losses.

Good luck--I know how hard it can be to not worry. I wish you well for your pregnancy.

I am 33 wks now & I am having cramps, its round ligament pain. Or at least mine is, that is what the dr. said. I didn't have any cramping in the begining.

A simple google search will tell her the same thing. It's very normal. Even if it were something bad, at this point the doctor wouldn't do anything. And, there's absolutely no indication that something is wrong if there's no bleeding accompaning the cramping.

I understand what you're saying and I'm not at all taking offense, but in this case, we do all know what we're talking about.

That's what I was thinking too, and I'm the most cautious person I know. It's not bad advice to tell someone to consult their doctor, but in this case it is sort of the equivalent of saying "my knees bend when I walk, is that normal?" and telling someone to call their doctor to be sure. I think my doctor would laugh if i called and asked that. (because I'm on my 5th, not 1st). Regular menstral like cramps are totally normal - there is alot going on in there, of course it's going to cramp. Anything more severe than menstral cramps or anything with spotting is cause for concern, but if you are newly pregnant, you are going to cramp.

probably TMI, but ....when I was just pregnant (sadly, for a short while) I went from constant runs (due to meds I was on) to just two days after teh positive home pregnancy test: BAM!!! constipation!!! not just ANY constipation, but cramping so painful I couldn't stand, couldn't lay down, thought that something must be seriously wrong. The OB told me to get some metamucil, and after a couple of doses it cleared right up.

I would suggest you either increase fiber in your diet or take some metamucil (the cinnamon cookies are pretty yummy and the drink mix isn't bad, if a bit gritty). At least that way you'll be sure it's not cramping related to constipation.

(of course, standard disclaimer of I'm not a doctor, see an OB if you're really concerned). And congratulations!! I wish you a healthy pregnancy!

I'm not currently pregnant - if I am, I have a lot of explaining to do to DH! :lmao: - but I had those "sensations" with all three pregnancies.

Why? One in four pregnancies end in m/c, most by the 12th week, and there is absolutely nothing a doctor can do. For all of my pregancies, until the 12th week, they were maybe-babies. I know SO many women who have mc's, and never let myself be excited until later.

OP, I always had cramping in the first trimester.

I hate to turn this into a what can go wrong thread, but I think I can answer your "why" question. Both of my pregnancies ended before the 12th week, and both had OBs pushing me to go to the ED with bleeding or excessive cramps. The first one, I bled, clearly lost the baby, but was still asked to go into the office (it was during normal hours) so it could be documented properly. I really thought I was over reacting, until my second. At six weeks, I had cramps with no bleeding and went to the ED, only to get sent home with metamucil. At 8 weeks, I had the same cramps with a little bleeding, hardly even spotting. I was at the ED by 8 and on the OR table by 9 because it was tubal and had just burst. So, the moral of my story is don't over react about cramping, but don't disregard it either. That early there could be something wrong. In my case, I was probably 10 minutes from the hospital when my fallopian tube burst, and as it was I lost a huge amount of blood and they were just barely able to keep from a full abdominal incision. If I had ignored it - or thought it was the same pain as the constipation from two weeks prior - and it WAS the same pain. Almost exactly - I would have been in a world of hurt.

So, I think it's good advice to talk to an OB if you're really worried. It's also good advice to realize it's pretty normal, and pregnancy in general, prenatal vitamins in particular , cause dehydration and constipation so you should watch out for it and drink more liquids and eat more fiber.

My two cents anyway...
