We just found out that my 2 DDs national dance competition is going to be held next year on a Carnival cruise. Eastern Caribbean I believe. While its a lot better than going to Atlantic City for the fifth time in a row, its still not Disney. Oh well. Where can I get info on the Carnival cruise line other than their web site? Any forums like this? Have any of you sailed with Carnival and how do they compare? I believe its the Carnival Legend. Thanks.

This is another site but as mentioned before it is not as good as DIS. I have cruised 3 times on Carnival and was not that impressed. In the travel business they have a nickname..."The K-Mart of Cruising". Here are a few reasons I was put off by the cruise line:
#1. All Italian officer crew (nothing against Italians because I am half Italian) men can be chauvinists and very forward with the ladies.
#2. The serving staff was VERY VERY pushy for tips and good comments on the survey that was passed out.
#3. The decor was just not my cup of tea. Too many primary colors; red, blue, purple and bright yellow. Alot of crome and neon decorations on the ship.

Having cruised both Carnival and Disney (as well as NCL), I agree that there is a huge difference. I enjoyed Carnival in a different way. I did Carnival when I was young, single with girlfriends and also married without children. It served it's purpose; lots of party
fun! The decor is much different (very flashy, ultra stimulating, sensory overload stuff), but for a young person, it was appealing to me. Since you stated that this was a dance competition (and that there had been numerous ones in AC-of which I live 45 minutes away, btw), I'm assuming your child is either a tween or teen. In that case, the ship would be just perfect for her age group. (They'd be way too cool to admit to enjoying Disney since their friends would be there too) You can chill at the casino and grab a drink while the little Fosses (I'm a dancer too) will have the time of their lives. Still good food, good shows (which the little Twylas will most certainly enjoy-performers straight off of 1st run national tours), decent pools and pizza (my personal favorite) Plus there's the added bonus of having your little Savion's best buds to keep her occupied while you have some quiet time. Also, I sailed on the Legend last year (cruise to nowhere) and it was very nice. Don't sweat it.:hyper:
