We are going to be at the fort July 31 through Aug 16th. Looking to check out Biscayne National Park and Maybe the Keys before arriving at the fort. I was hoping some of the Florida experts here could help us find campgrounds. We love NP and state parks but will also do private if that is all that's available. Also any must see advice.

Thanks

Well, it's nowhere near Biscayne or the Keys, but Alexander Springs!

It's very close to WDW and features a cold water spring that boils up into a real swimming hole. The water is crystal clear and clean and it washes up to a nice white sandy beach.

The snorkeling is awesome.

The campground loops are very nice, too. I can't remember if they have electricity, though.

Here's a picture:

Definitely a must see!

I agree that the springs are a must see. There are to many to list, but I think my favorite would be Ginnie Springs.

Check out ReserveAmerica, they do online checkins for Florida state parks. Florida has some great state parks. We have stayed at a couple that rival the Fort..

Thank you. I never heard of these springs. I will look into them and the state parks. Anyone stay at the campgrounds in Everglades NP?

Not sure if you are going through North Florida, but there is an awesome city owned campground in Jacksonville called Hannah Park. It is very convenient to the beaches in Jacksonville, and is very safe and friendly. It is a great spot to spend a night and beats the KOAs any day.

Bahia Honda State Park
I haven't stayed here But I want to, I hear it's great.

We haven't camped at Bahia Honda but we stopped there for the day last year.
It is a little slice of paradise!

Thanks for the photo. Looks awesome there. We did decide to wait another year and do the keys in 2012 so we will have more time and more money. LOL. We will do Virginia Civil War sites for a week on our way to Disney.

Love your blog. Can't wait to read more. We drove through Western Canada this past summer on our way to Alaska and cruised to Vancouver and back to Alaska. Love it there. So clean and everyone is so friendly.
