I am surprising my wife with a 2 day trip to the DLR over Mother's Day. We're leaving our daughter with my Mother-in-law -- this will be our first overnight stay ever without our daughter!!!

Our first day (Sat.) is a blackout day on our APs. Any suggestions of fun or interesting things to do around the area? Any "can't miss" restaurants or other?

Sure we can easily be entertained around the resort, but perhaps there is something unique in the area?

Thanks in advance!

The Angels are out of town that weekend, but you could take her to a Dodger game. ;)

But seriously, there are several top-notch restaurants at Gardenwalk - Cheesecake Factory, PF Chang's, Roy's Hawaiian Fusion, and others. Nice movie theatre there too, with an over-21 section that serves wine and beer. Even if you don't imbibe it's nice to be in a newish upscale theatre with no kids or teeny-bops.

We actually live in LA, but both grew up in OC. I'm a big-time Angel fan - would have been nice if they were in town.

Ooh ... yes, maybe a movie? We literally haven't seen a movie in the theater since our daughter was born! Have never been to the Gardenwalk and was wondering if it was worth it? What else is there, what restaurant there is considered the 'best'?

Thanks for your reply!

What is your schedule? Are you staying Friday night and then filling the whole day Saturday and then Sunday in DL? If that's the case, I'd lean more towards buying a blockout day ticket ($45 per) and just going to DL. But then I don't know what else to do in the immediate area that could fill the day.

Whether Gardenwalk is "worth it" depends on you and your wife. Gardenwalk is just an open air mall. Check out their website and see if they have anything you'll like.

We really like Cheesecake Factory, but have heard good things about Roy's. There's also a Bubba Gump's Shrimp Company and a McCormick and Schmicks (steak house). There's also a trendy bowling alley.

You might also consider Napa Rose at GCH or Steakhouse 55 at DLH.

If you are in the park, I would say check out Blue Bayou, I really love going to that restaurant.

We arrive early Sat. morn. and are staying at the DLH.

I am considering buying blockout tickets ... but that'll be $90 ... I think we'd rather put that toward dinner at Napa Rose. We last ate at Napa Rose on our first wedding anniversary.

Wow, planning our first trip WITHOUT kids is really different!!!
