i like nightmare before christmas but def. don't think it's appropriate to be shown to 2nd graders in a school setting. that said-i have to question why if a teacher did show it in a music class, it was just a 'for fun' movie. this is a movie that could lend itself to teaching music students so much about various aspects of composition, vocal technique, and utilizing computers to layer multiple tracts of one singer (the composer danny elfman) to create what sounds like entire choral works (plus he did all the singing for jack skellington/i would have the class watch some scenes from the johnny depp 'willy wonka' (again not my idea of something a school should show to 2nd graders) so they could realize/learn about/discuss how one person skilled (and very talented) can do multiple styles of vocal music (elfman did all the singing for the oompa loompa songs, and the styles of vocal 'sounds' vary greatly). seems like the music teacher kind of missed the boat not only by showing a movie that i think most feel is inappropriate but by missing out on an actual teaching opportunity.
