Just a quick question.....

DD was offered a position today at Starbuck's. It is in a heavily traveled tourist area. We are wondering if anyone knows of anyone that works at a Starbucks and how much they make in tips, if any?

The one that she will be at will only have 2 people working at a time, so she was told they would be split 50/50, if that helps.

Any Starbucks that I've been to has a small jar for tips, but never a lot of money....just change really. I don't usually tip at Starbucks. S

As I once worked as a bartender in a high tourist area in a couple difference establishments... and tourists rarely tip.

Hi there!

Tell your daughter that she will love being a Barista! I was one for 3 years!

I worked at a pretty busy Starbucks location. And, we did make a decent amount of tips. I'm not sure if it varies from location to location (some are part of a franchise, and some are "corporate" - owned by Starbucks), but our corporate location had a pretty good system for tips. That "jar" on the counter was emptied once or twice a day, kept in the safe and counted by two staff members bi-weekly. It was then divided up by the number of hours worked each week by each employee. Since we were paid bi-weekly, we'd get an envelope of tips on the opposite week.

Usually, it worked out to about an additional dollar per hour. So, working a full 40 hour work week, I would get about $80-$100 every other week in cash. Just make sure your daughter keeps track of this as you do have to report it on your taxes as "other income" as with most other tipped professions.

(I just edited this post to add that I notice that you are in Niagara, I was in St. Catharines. I believe that Niagara is a franchise, not owned by Starbucks... so, the system is probably different, but the tips should be really good!)
