if you are spotting red blood on the day you are due to get your period, is that considered day one of your cycle or is a heavy flow considered day one? I'm trying to determine day one because I have to start my clomid on cycle day two, but I don't know if today would be counted as day one or not... (I just started to spot about two hours ago)

Thanks!

That's a really good question, and I think that tomorrow morning you should call your doctor's office to ask.

The book Taking Charge of Your Fertility, from how I have read it, counts spotting as the first day (or at least that's what I've always thought it was, unless it started REALLY late in the day).

But the Clear Blue Easy Monitor considers it to be Day 1 ONLY if it started fully in the morning, not just spotting.

So IMO you should find out what the people who prescribed you the drug say.

I asked my nurse friend on facebook ha ha

"The first day of your cycle is considered to be any ******l bleeding that occurs before noon. If you start light spotting at 3PM today then tomorrow would be day 1 of your cycle. If it started at 9AM today then today is day 1."

Guess that answers my question!

I would consider that first drop of blood my day One. On my body calendar, my heavy flow day is day two.

Every doc defines it a little differently, but spotting usually doesn't count for Clomid. It might be your first day of full flow, or it might be your first day where you had full flow by 9am - depends on your dr, so I'd definitely call.

Since Clomid protocols vary widely (with 2-6 a less-usual protocol - most people I know did 5-9), I suspect it doesn't matter one iota, so long as a) you're 100% sure you're having your period and not some non-menstrual bleeding and b) you're consistent from month to month. My RE always did a CD3 ultrasound to check for residual cysts before writing the next month's script. IIRC, bright red blood before midnight made that day CD1.

But what everyone else said - call your doctor, that's what she's there for!

I just wanted to wish you well, OP, and to tell you that DD#1 is a Clomid and IUI baby. We did about 6 cycles before we got her though, so kep the faith.

first day of your friend spot is day one. Good Luck with Clomid. I hope it does the trick for you. My guess is you are ttc. Be sure to get the book "taking charge of your fertility".

eta.. our first dd is a clomid baby. Keep faith and as hard as it is, try not to stress about ttc. Happy baby dancing.

I didn't read all the responses, but according to my OB/GYN... you count from the first day of bright red flow IF it takes place before mid-day.

ETA- DS is a clomid baby too. Our next to last try. 200 mg on cd 5-9

If it turns into a real flow by the end of the day, count it as day 1.

Btw, I have two clomid babies, the 2nd of which is 12 days old! Good luck this cycle, and lots of baby dust your way!!!

I just wanted to say good luck... this is my first month on Clomid too :)

I was told first day of your typical period flow. I did 5 cycles of clomid, in addition to IUIs and hormone shots and we were finally blessed to have our super cute little man. We were due to meet back with our fertility doc in October to start up again, only to find out we are pregnant with #2 when my period never came! We are 11 weeks along, with no meds, no hormones...I was amazed!

My one tip about clomid, take it before you go to bed.....it did a number on my vision and always made me a bit dizzy.

Good luck with this :) If you are more than spotting by this point in the day I would say this is day 1, but I too would check with whoever prescribed to you to be sure!

We ttc'd for two years before we conceived dd#1 ... Clomid didn't help us unfortunately and we moved on to Gonal-F (injections) and the first round of that along with an IUI and we were pg! Second dd we went right to the Gonal-F and IUI and it took three cycles to conceive her (maybe that is why she is feisty ... had to work hard to get 'made')!!!

Hope this works for you ... I know so many women that have had success with Clomid!!! :thumbsup2

I wanted to pipe in with a good luck as well! My dd is from my second clomid try. She is the best thing EVER to us.

Just wanted to say good luck. My Clomid baby will be 4 in January !!!! We have been triying for #2 with no luck so far, so I wish you LOTS of Baby Dust !!!

Thanks everyone! I ended up not counting the spotting as day one, but I probably should have, and started my clomid the next day. Doc wanted me to do days 2 to 6 to try and produce more eggs. It worked for my DD3 - so hopefully will work this time, too! I'm always scared of getting twins though with the 100mg I am taking/took. lol

Thank you! We are already blessed with three beautiful girls, but my DH wants at least two more. :rotfl: If we get a no. 4 I will say that will be enough. I went through heck and back for no.3. I hope this one doesn't prove to be as difficult!
