OT Wildwood Crest,NJ

I am going down to the Wildwoods this weekend for a couple of days. We always wing it as far as reservations go. I always find a room somewhere, but then again I'm only looking for a bed, a shower and not bug infested. I have to disagree on the fudge though, I love Laura's fudge. Mack's pizza is OK my DSIL eats a WHOLE PIE by himself he loves it so much. For dinner I have to go to Groffs at Magnolia just off the boardwalk. 2 more days I can't wait.

Laura's has the best Choc. covered Strawbrerries.
Macks we eat a pie there and take a 1/2 back home with us.

How long are you staying? If you are staying for a week, my friend has a beautiful home that they rent by the week!

I grew up at the Shore, so now I won't go near it....unless it's for a piece of Mack and Manco in Ocean City :) and of course Fralinger Salt Water Taffy or Laura's or Douglas Fudge!

Going to Wildwood and not eating at Snow White is not only unDislike, but unAmerican:woohoo:

It is a really small town(1 square mile) in South Jersey. The people call themselves Parker's so I thought by your name you were from there. I have alot of friends from there.

Oh, I see. Well, that would make my screen name so much more clever than it actually is.

I'm just very inquisitive and curious (well that's what i call it anyway! ;) )

I would also recommend Ocean City if you are looking for a south jersey shore experience.. It's a real family town and the boardwalk there is great for the little ones. The beach is not as long as Wildwood but similar packed sand. Just a suggestion. :goodvibes

I second that absolutely. If you want clean quiet and safe family fun, Ocean city is the way to go. No alcohol on the island at all, no disgusting t-shirts for sale, (very few anyway) Much more family friendly, especially with little kids. Not knocking Wildwood for all you fans, but we've done OC every year for the last 16 and love it. Plus you don't need a camel to get to the ocean. We've gone over to the boardwalk at Wildwood a few times, and the contrast is striking- it's just so, well, trashier. Geared much more towards teens, it seems to me. No offense intended to you Wildwooders.

Plus Mack and Manco's is unquestionably the best pizza in the whole world. don't know if they are the same as Mack's mentioned in this thread. Worth the drive from anywhere just for a slice! Now I'm getting really hungry just thinking about it.. Maybe some Shriver's fudge after..mmmmmmm

Plus, if you're in the area, you have to go to the Cape May county zoo. THE nicest zoo you've ever been too, very well kept and fun, and it's FREE! It's a must do for us every year, takes half a day and is well worth it.

My kids' school starts late this year due to construction and we're thinking of Ocean City for a couple of nights after Labor Day. What can you guys tell me about the hotels, attractions that are open/closed, etc. My kids are 8, 8 and 6.

We always stay at Watsons Regency. They are very small condos that are independently owned but also run like a hotel and rented out nightly if you choose. It's on the corner of 9th and Ocean. It's a slightly longer block to the boardwalk but you don't have cross any streets to get to the boardwalk. It's right between both ride areas and Shrivers Fudge/Taffy in on the corner of the boardwalk there. :) I don't know about what's open but their Chamber of Commerce or their town website may be able to help you out.

That's exactly the week we usually go - the best week of the year in my opinion. Warm water and empty beaches. Plus you don't need beach passes after labor day. It's not nearly as empty as it used to be years ago that week, but still nothing like the summertime.

Pretty much everything is open except the water park, which is only open on weekends. All the stores and restaurants are open all week, and completely un-crowded. The amusement parks generally open up in the evenings for a few hours, they may not be open all day. We always rent a house for the week- some fantastic deals close by the beach after labor day. Check out www.ocnj.com for more info. My guess is you could get a 2 or 3 bedroom house for the week for what a hotel will cost for 3 or 4 nights, at least you used to be able to, rents have steadily gone up in the last few years.

Our must-do's include walking the boards, sitting on the beach, eating Mack and Manco's pizza, walking the boards..eating...walking the boards... free fudge samples at Laura's fudge kitchen..walking the boards.. It just never gets old. We figure the eating and walking kind of cancel each other out, so you can eat all you want. Biking the board walk in the mornings and getting breakfast at Ova' at the end of the boardwalk is all very fun.

Other fun things are the zoo as I mentioned, it's about 30 minutes away. I also like Corson's inlet state park, its at the southern most tip of the island, nice for a short hike. Good fishing down there as well. Completely unspoiled, and the sunsets are beautiful over the bay. Definitely worth the drive down.

We love Yesterdays across the 39th street bridge for finer dining, but Pappy's across the road has the best BBQ going. Hot and greasy and just sooo good. Good value too. I love food that comes in a basket.

Man, this is kiling me, it looks like we cant get there this year, and it's really depressing. We started going when my DD was 5 mos old, and she turned 16 this year. A whole lot of our best memories are in that town.

ITA! It beats Philadelphia Zoo hands down. We went for the 1st time about 2 yrs ago. They do ask for donations at the entrance. Can be what ever you want to give.
I think OC being a dry town helps keep out the riff-raff and drunks.;)

Thanks a lot guys! ;)

We weren't going to go to Wildwood this year since we were just in WDW in May and that was supposed to be our "summer vacation". But after reading this, wishing I was eating Curly's Fries for dinner, and missing the beach (even though we've done lots of day trips), I'm now BOOKED for a few days at the end of the month. Need to go mail my check today - I swear those hotels down there are the only ones that still make you do that!

Mmmmmm. Mack's pizza, here I come!

That's funny! I just heard the SAME thing from a friend of mine today regarding the Cape May Zoo!! (another one of our friends is camping at Cape May next week) We'll have to consider that area as a vacation spot some year!
