Anyone else here affected by all the wild fires burning around the US?

We are down in Southern NJ and they hit pretty hard the other day-just 9 miles from our house. Very scary as we have never encountered something like that in all our years. I had our back doors open yesterday afternoon and large chunks of ash (we're talking 1-inch in diameter) were wafting into the house. Lots of folks were evacuated from their homes and given 10 minutes to gather what they could and get out. Last night it rained and I actually thanked God that it did-even prayed for MORE and MORE! Guess somebody was listening because the news said 70% of the fire was now under control and most folks were allowed to go back home-those who had homes to go back to. :sad1:

I couldn't believe how many areas of the US have the fires going out of control. Hope that no matter where everyone is, they are safe and out of harms way. It was quite a wake up call when suddenly its happening by you.

We're in GA, well north of the fires near the GA/FL border, but yesterday the wind was blowing just right, and almost all of metro Atlanta was covered in smoke. Our street was hazy and the smell was awful. DH left the garage open for about 45 minutes, and our basement reeked. Today is better, but with no rain in sight, I don't know when this will be over.

I sure hope things get better for you there in Georgia. I can't believe how wide of an area has been affected by the wildfires down south. We have friends in South Florida and they said from time to time they have had smoke and ash in the skies too. Its just crazy. I never thought much about wildfires until it cropped up right near us! Our saving grace was that we had about 3 days of rain, but it sure was odd to open the windows or doors and have huge pieces of ash coming in and the sky looking like it was night time.

Imagine how it is in Savannah! Argh. I'm glad that the fires aren't as bad here, but we have the smoke constantly. The kids at school don't even get to go outside it's so bad!
Pray for rain!

Can someone from Georgia tell me the best way to find out about road closings due to wild fires. We are driving from IL to FL and will come thru Georgia. We are taking a break in Chatanooga (sp) TN and I wanted to get conditions before we left TN and headed into Georgia. We still have 10 days until the trip, but it dosn't look like everything will be under control by then. Any suggestions would be apprechiated.

I can't figure out how to post the link, but search google for Georgia Dot. Click on travel information.
Watch the Travel Alert Box. It flashes different info. and has information about 75 in both Georgia and Florida. At the moment it says traffic is allowed on 75 as visibility permits. Be prepared for detours.
The pictures on the news have been very bad.

There are some fires here in FL that don't affect us for the most part, but we do see alot of smoke if the wind blows right..not sure if you can see it well in this pic I took, but its like this and gives you a major sore throat

Southern Middle Tennessee here. We are about 2 hrs North of Birmingham and the smoke is black and over us. No smells yet. We were out walking last night and saw it for the first time. It was unbelievable.

Thanks for the information. I wish you lots of rain in the next couple of days. I would gladly send you the rain we are supposed to get for the next four days.
