OT Wicked: The Musical

It's over.

Back in 2005, we were lucky enough to get Stephanie Block's understudy; Kristy Cates, let me tell you that she was better than Idina.

Shoshana Bean was our Elphaba this time around...and....well...she butchered Defy Gravity with her voice cracking and was off key on the "so if you care to find me, look to the Western sky..." line and sadly; the rest of the song only went downhill from there. In addition; she was no where near as strong as Kristy or Idina for The Wizard and I. Other than those couple of things, she was great, however those who know Wicked as well as I do, know how bad it was that she fell apart at that moment of Defy Gravity. It was disappointing to say the least.

The BEST part of the whole show was actually a blooper in it. Right at the end of *Popular*, Glinda puts a flower in Elphie's hair and says "Oh, pink goes good with green", then she goes to grab the mirror...

In doing so, the microphone makes this loud 'pop' kinda sound. To make a funny; Glinda (the 'Ga' is silent)

responds to the noise by saying "excuse me".

The entire audience laughs and Shoshana begins chuckling. Within one second, both girls are laughing and this made the audience laugh more, then the two girls simply couldn't gain their composure. Shoshana was laughing so hard that she had her head bent down and she couldn't even look up at Megan. Of course the line following that is very serious, so they couldn't continue until they were able to control themselves. It was priceless!!!

I feel your pain, dear. I can't stand Shoshana. And I've seen 5 different Elphabas in my lifetime...

However, Megan Hilty makes up for it with her brilliance in my opinion!

You know what, I love musicals but I just couldn't get into Wicked. We saw it last year and although we like it, don't get me wrong - it isn't one I'd see again and I really wish I loved it like you guys, coz it is making me feel like I'm a weirdo or something.

We have seen Lion King 6 times now, Mamma Mia 5 times, and lots of other shows but Wicked was just okay.

We saw Wicked the last time in played in Toronto. We went again this Tuesday. Have to say we were a little disappointed in it this time. Still good, but not as great as last time.

It's Shoshana. Sadly; she was no where NEAR the Elphaba that Kristy was.

However, Megan Hilty makes up for it with her brilliance in my opinion!

Megan WAS great and although she helped make up for Shoshana, it was still disappointing to have such a 'weak' Elphaba.
