OT- Which videocamera?

We're leaving on Saturday and our video camera died today! I need to get a new one this week. We have a young daughter, so I use the video camera almost everyday. I don't know if I should get one that records on a memory card, a dvd, or a mini dv tape. Anyone have any suggestions on the best, most easy to use camera? I want a high def one this time but don't want to spend more then $1300- $1400. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

We really like our Sony. I can't remember which model it is but it has a hard drive that it records to and then you just burn it onto a dvd on your computer. (I think it is called a hard drive handycam.) It was probably around $600. It is small and compact but does a good job and no tapes or mini-discs to deal with.

My DH has been looking at the Panasonic one that has a hard drive and also takes an SD card. I'd love to hear if anyone has one of these!
