We will be in Toronto the weeekend of the Carabana festival. We had planned a trip to Canada's Wonderland not knowing it would be the final weekend of the festival. Should we stay downtown in the midst of the crowd's or out further near the park? It will be myself, a friend and 4 kids (ages 7,8,9, and 12). My firend has left all the planning up to me. She says just try to get a nice hotel at a decent price and let me know what my share is. Can anyone help me decide where to stay? I appreciate all comments.

I believe traffic will be very hectic that weekend. It would be great to be downtown, however it's quite a distance from Wonderland.

check out www.toronto.com for hotel details!

Do not stay downtown Toronto during the weekend of the Carabana festival - locals like me who live by Exhibition where the majority of festivites take place leave the city now after being through this a few years running. The traffic is gridlocked, there are an average of 3 murders on Yonge Street and by now many hotels will be jam packed and sold out.

Look into hotels around Richmond Hill, Vaughn and Maple.

Good luck!

To Winston112.
I would recommend staying around the Yorkdale Mall area (Intersection of hwy 401 and Dufferin Ave). Quick access to major highways (401 and 400) to get you to Wonderland. Great mall for shopping. And convenient access to the subway for a quick ride downtown for the Caribana festivals. Try the Holiday Inn Yorkdale. The Holiday Inn website indicates that they have a Canada's Wonderland Package which includes one night accommodation, welcome package, hotel parking, plus 2 adult tickets to Paramount Canada's Wonderland for $214.50 (Cdn) + taxes.

To tone.def you exaggerate. I've been to the Saturday Caribana parade and Friday night Yonge street party for the last 20 years and have yet to encounter a dangerous situation. Toronto media likes to print sensational stories.

Actually, I was a bartender at Medieval Times for a couple years, a Carabana sponsor. Carabana events and parties were held there. 2 years in a row, at last call, we were threatened, had patrons jumping over the bar, alcohol bottles broken on our staff members (ask me about my gash to the head - flying broken beer bottle), alcohol stolen (from the patron being in the bar area as we couldn't control these drunks) and there was once a gun waved at us. First time I ever saw one in my life - whether real or fake, I don't care - but I hope to never see one again.

Last year during Carabana 3 people were murdered at Yonge Street (around Carlton I beleive).

Even during the day light hours, I couldn't walk down King Street West to Dufferin without some nice dashing gentleman sucking his teeth or lips at me telling me what he'd like to "f$%@ing" do to me and my "p*&^y" and trying to forcefully grab my arm and take me into Lamport Stadium. Okay, maybe this can happen to me on any other given weekend, but it never has.

Exaggeration - I don't think so!

Go enjoy your parade, I'll be in the Muskokas - safe.
