I am looking at surprising my husband with a trip to Chicago September 1-5 to see the Mets play the Cubs. We will probably fly as looking at the cost of parking at hotels is nuts! So I am looking for some recommendations on where to stay that will be close to restaurants and bars as well as city transit. I don't want to pay much more than $130.00 per night if possible. I have read that the Magnificent Mile or River north are good locations. Any suggestions?

Go Cubs Go, Go Cubs Go

I recommend flying and taking the EL from the airport downtown. If you fly into Midway, you will take the Orange line. If you fly into O'hare, you will take the Blue Line. Depending on where you stay you can then take a quick cab or just walk to the hotel.

I just got an email from the Kimpton hotel group an up market hotel chain. They are opening a new property in Chicago tomorrow called the Palomar. I am a member of their frequent stay group and got an offer for $89 a night the dates of this offer are 24 March-20 August (but you may see if you can get a good rate for your dates) and it looks like a really nice place.

Stay at a kimpton ...we did it was great location and nice hotel I think we paid 130...and we had a goldfish for our entire stay :rotfl:

I'm not sure about the Mag Mile for under $130 a night!
We stayed at The Talbot on Valentine's Day and it was so nice! It is always on the top of Trip Advisor, usually #1. It is a very nice hotel. The rooms are big and comfy, staff is very friendly. Very affordable prices for the location and how nice it is. It's very close to lots of restaurants and bars, not sure about Wrigley Field, though.(Sox fan!)

You will find better deals in River North or the Gold Coast than on the Mag Mile. Just make sure you are close to the Red line to get to Wrigley.

Have fun! Chicago is a great place in the summer!

Definitely go through one of the name you own price websites, like travelosity. My mom came into town last summer with some friends, and was able to get a 4* hotel (the Hyatt on E. Wacker), I believe $140 a night. And this was over the 1st weekend of the Taste of Chicago, which is a big tourist attraction.
