I tell my kids the truth, but leave out specifics. Like, they know an egg grows in mommy's tummy. When it's ready to hatch, it comes out the 3rd hole that just females have. I think telling kids about holes is important--I still remember being 12 or so, and finding out I had a 3rd hold. I was SHOCKED.
I tell DD5 that her parts are on the inside, while DS4's are outside. They noticed the difference from a young age.
They also know about puberty (hair growing/periods), not to do drugs, not to smoke, and that people and living things eventually die, etc. I tell them the truth, because I think that's the right thing to do, and because I wish my parents did that from the start. We have lots of good discussions about everything on their level.
