I'm hoping someone can give me some advice as I'm a bit lost.

I'm flying to Boston with DS & DD in a weeks time so that the kids can visit my mum. Her health has been deteriorating rapidly over the past few months and this is likely the last chance they'll have to see her. She's pretty much housebound and uses a walker, but for our trip I've asked her if she can get access to a fold up wheelchair so that she can come on short trips with us.

I don't know what size car I need to rent so that it will be alble to hold a wheelchair in the trunk! Would most car trunks hold a wheelchair (there wouldnt need to be anything else in the trunk)? Or are there cars to stay away from/look for in particular??

Thanks :)

I"m not an expert, but standard size fold up wheelchairs seem to be pretty easily transportable.
You can get them in the park as well. So, you wouldn't have to worry about having your own. They have them at the parks and at Downtown Disney.

Scooters are also available for rent but are more expensive and she may not be up for manuevering a scooter around.

If you have a handicap parking sticker and park in the handicap section of the parks, there are wheelchairs there in the parking lot to use for free to get you to the park.
I noticed them in the MK handicap parking lot at least. From that lot, you have to go up a long path then up to the monorail or boat to get to the entrance gate.
I can't remember if the handicap lot at DHS had them, but it was pretty close to the front of the park.
At the park you can then rent one easily.

I believe that most of the resorts have wheelchairs available as well, but I'm not sure if any advanced call is needed and I believe they require a hefty, but refundable, deposit.
As I learned this past trip, if you have a handicap parking pass, valet service is free at the Deluxe resorts (tips accepted). So, a nice trip to see the animals at AKL or look around the GF or Poly might be more relaxing than being at parks.
We really enjoy visiting the resorts!

Have a wonderful time with your Mom!

Any mid-size sedan or larger should be able to handle a folded wheelchair in the trunk.

If you can contact the company which supplies her with durable medical equipment they would be good ones to discuss it with. Or enter "wheelchair rental Boston" into Google and you will get a lot of locations, including a map. So you can contact companies up there that are either near the airport or near her house or something like that.
