OT- Whatcha readin?

Just doing some reserving at the library for my summer reading and was looking for some recommendations? I like everything from Harry Potter to Sookie Stackhouse to whatever!

I recently read "Forty Fat and Fired" by Nigel...someone. Excellent, funny, thoughtful memoir of a dad who makes some big changes. Also made me want to go to Australia! Easy read, too, under 200 pgs (in the day of 1000 pg novels...it'd better be GOOD!). My book club just read "The Lucky One" by Nicholas Spark, which was an easy and engaging read, though predictable...good light summer reading! But heaven help you, don't buy it in hardcover, go to your library.

Vision in White by Nora Roberts was enjoyable. Diane Mott Davidson's culinary mysteries are fun, esp if you start at the first book, Catering to Nobody.

I always recommend Range of Motion by Elizabeth Berg. So good that I read it every couple years & get something new out of it each time.

Before that I read and enjoyed "Inkheart"
Waiting on the night stand is "The 8th Confession" By James Patterson. Love anything by James Patterson.

I just finished reading My Marmoirs: true story of a head on a stick http://www.headonastick.ca/
Author is brilliant - makes you laugh and cry along with the story (not to mention she is a great friend of mine so had to get a plug in here for her!!)
She's been through alot - finding out she had breast cancer when she was expecting her 2nd child (who will be 4yo at the end of the month!!) and she did a great job writing about what she went through.

Finished half blood prince again too - getting ready for the movie in July and will be on the hunt for something else to read very soon!

Just finished Hunted - the House of Night novel series is awesome (like Twilight a bit since it's about teenage vampires at a vampire high school). Now reading One Day at a Time by Danielle Steel and have Salem Falls by Jodi Piccoult on the shelf next. I loved all the Twilight books, and really want to read the Sookie Stackhouse series (love True Blood on HBO). Looking forward to many hours on my deck reading this summer!

I'm reading Patricia Cornwell's Portrait of a Killer -- Jack the Ripper -- Case Closed. It's veeerrrry slow going, and I'm not sure if I buy all of her assumptions (not usually a Cornwell reader, since I find her books very dark)

But...I'm loving the historical discussion eg. what the police were like, how they conducted their cases, etc. I usually like to read Anne Perry for the same reasons, but this book goes way more in-depth on the history.

Finished book #7 on Sunday & had to make an "emergency" trip to Chapters to get book #8! Finished that last night & luckily book #9 was ready for me at the library!!

Really liking it, it's a bit like Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series, quirky w/ dark humour

Even ordered True Blood from Amazon, hope the series is as good as the books!!

I thought they were like the Stephanie Plum novels too in a way! I've watched True Blood season 1 and 2 just started on Sunday. The characters are a little different than I imagined (won't spoil it for you) and they have taken liberties with the story line, but overall I enjoyed it. Make sure no children are around when you are watching....geez, some of those scenes made me blush!!

I read the house of night books. I know they are for teens, but I thought they were good. I told you I would read anything! I just picked up 12 books from the library last night. I got my Sister's Keeper, Glass Castle, a Jodi Piccoult (can't remember) but my sister told me about a new book called The Hunger Games. I don't even know what it's about, but her coworker said she couldn't put it down. It is the first book of a series with the second coming out in Sept.

Currently I'm reading Crow Lake, which is pretty good. I also hear the Shack is good but I'm 59th on the list at the library for that one (may have to break down and buy that one)!

Keep the suggestions coming! I love to read....especially with summer vacations coming, pool time with the kids and absolutely NOTHING on tv.....well except True Blood on Sunday..teehee!

I am just finishing the whole TWILIGHT series of books. They are not normally what I read, but found them refreshing. I took the first two with us on our trip recently, came home and couldn't wait to buy the other two. Very entertaining!

I'm reading Bill Clinton's biography. The detailed political maneouvering parts are a little dry, but overall, it's pretty good so far

I'm reading the new Joy Fielding book Still Life. She is one of my favourite authors. I just finished reading My Sister's Keeper which has also been made into a movie that comes out Friday. I always love to read the book first before watching the movie. The book is usually better than the book. I loved that book!

I'm up to "L" in the Sue Grafton alphabet series. I wish she would sell the TV/Movie rights for this but she has said it will never happen. Too bad, great character. I'll be reading P.D. James' The Private Patient next.

Holy cow! Just the intro into True Blood & you get the picture this is for ADULTS! We watched the first 2 episodes & I too was blushing & telling DH, "NO!~THAT wasn't in the book!"
I'm not a prude but it's surprising that the director made it SO dark and SO sexual. I even watched the first episode again w/ the commentary to see what he said about changing it & he said, from the opening title sequence he was setting the tone...

The books are not nearly as graphic & the humour is what I love most. However, Anna as Sookie is amazing! She's such an awesome Sookie.
