Sorry this is so long....

My DH and I along with his parents and brothers decided to take at trip to the World in December 08. It would be to celebrate his brothers wedding (a few months later), our 5th anniversary and his parents 30th anniversary. We decided this back in October and made our reservations. All along we've been talking about places to make ADR's etc. Just yesterday his brother came over to our house and said that they were going to cancel and go on a cruise for their honeymoon and that his parents were going to cancel also and wanted to take the family on a four day cruise for Christmas on the west coast.

DH and I have been looking forward to this trip for quite some time. We used to live in ATL and were able to go often. We moved to the west in 04 and have not been back to WDW since. His parents and brothers went just last Christmas when we went to visit my family who lives out of state so I guess it's not as big of a deal to them. (Let me just add that we live 9 hours from DLR and all have annual passes, that tells you how much we love Disney.)

We have two DS's who will be four and one at the time of the trip. The reason we decided to go with others is so we have someone to watch the kids so we could ride some of the adult rides. We aren't the type of people who can ride by ourselves so that's out of the question.

Now we are trying to figure out what to do. Do we cancel all together? Try to find someone else to go with us? Go in October when it's cheaper with the kids by ourselves? (The only reason we were going to go over Christmas is because DFIL owns his own business that is the only time he can get away.) We are really struggling with what to do, we don't want to spend all this money to go and not be able to do everything, but we've been so looking forward to this trip.

Thanks fellow disers for listening, I think I just needed to vent to others who understood...:sad2: :sad2: :sad2:

Well, since your youngest is only 1 why don't you wait and join the others on the cruise and go to WDW when he's older. You've already said you go to DL quite often so you get a little Disney fix through that.
Maybe your inlaws will want to go with you in 2009?
If you do choose to go I wouldn't switch to October. Maybe you could go earlier in December to avoid some of the crowds but still go for the holidays. It's soooo beautiful! And don't worry about not enjoying the "grown-up" rides. It's just an excuse to go back when the kids are older to go on the bigger rides.

I forgot to add that we already have plans to go on a Disney Cruise with some good friends at the end of 2009 or January 2010 is why we can't wait and go next year.

Thanks Disneychix for the December suggestion, we should look into that. We could make it a birthday trip for me. :woohoo: Just got to decide if it's worth the hassle with the kids.

Well since you asked what I would do, I'll tell you. I'd wait and go when the kids are older and do the cruise now. But that's just me. We waited till our youngest was 5 to go to DW for the first time and it was perfect:goodvibes

Well, we like to go often, but we are a single income family. What we do is watch for codes and ask for money toward the trip from our parents for our birthdays and Christmas. We make sure that each trip doesn't exceed $2,200, including dining and souvenirs. If I were you, I would go for maybe 4 or 5 nights and try to do it cheap. Then go again and again and again if you can. :thumbsup2 I think that there are benefits to bringing your kids at every age. I am not the type to enjoy rides alone, but some rides are worth it... splash mountain, for example. If you've never tried riding alone, you might want to try it once. Who knows, maybe your oldest will be tall enough to do some of the rides by then.
