I'm trying to decide on a theme for DD's 2nd birthday in august. Debating between a luau or some sort of character theme.

We actually did this for Ds's first Bday (the second we were at WDW :cool1:) It was kind of a jungle/monkey theme. It was so cute. Streamers for vines and I cut out and hot glued felt to make banana peels. I made this super cute cake off Martha Stewarts website.
Here is my version:

we did elmo, she loved him at the time. This year (age 3) I let her pick and she went with Blues Clues

Dora. But her birthday is July 3rd and her party was a family picnic on the 4th of July so we also had the whole red white and blue theme going!!!!

My husband is an obsessive railroad fan and my Daughter likes them too. For her second birthday we did a train theme. Not Thomas, just generic trains. We decorated in pink and blue (the colors of Osh Kosh's railroad overalls) and had lots of train touches. There was a train pinata and we put up Katie's Wooden Railroad for the kids to play with. I had a little outfit made for her with a pink 'girly' train and most of the guest kids wore the Osh Kosh railroad overalls all on their own. The kids got train whistles and bandanas in the appropriate colors as favors, and you can see the cake that we had made below:

Obviously an odd theme for a girl, but she is 6 and still loves to see the pictures.

I am really glad that we did something generic and not specific like Thomas. If I were you, I'd go for the Luau! There are so many cute things you can do! Oriental Trading Company has pages and pages of stuff!

Very cute outfit and very cute cake. We love seeing different cakes since my DH makes them and it is fun to get new ideas.

I second Oriental trading company!!!!

If you do go with the luau theme..... they had on their site little Palm trees that open up and there were little crayons, little coloring pages and little stickers. Soooo cute to put into a favors bag.!!! My daughter got one and had so much fun playing with it a couple weeks ago.:)

The lady who made that cake said that it was the first of its kind requested. I mean, she had made other train cakes, but none that were pink and frilly. ;) I guess that not too many girls want railroad themed birthday parties. :)

We had Elmo (and he even showed up!) for DS's 2nd.. and Blues Clues for DD's 2nd.. and 3rd.. and 4th...

DD's 1st was Princesses, 2nd Seaseme Street, 3rd, Princesses, 4th Tinkerbell (She decided on 3 and 4)

DS's 1st was Thomas, 2nd (May 1) Disney's Cars (He picked)

I feel like a really, REALLY bad mom! First birthday was our family eating cupcakes! Second birthday, in just a few weeks, is unplanned...probably more family eating cupcakes (and I'm not talking about extended family - they're too far away - I'm talking mommy, daddy, and siblings)!!! I don't think I threw themed parties until they were in preschool - like 4 or 5 years old. Yikes!

We have boy/girl twins and we are doing Mickey and Minnie....they are OBSESSED with Mickey Mouse Clubhouse :)

DS turns 2 next month. His party will be a Lightning McQueen theme. He LOVES the movie CARS (he calls LM "speed") and I found some great CARS party favors on clearance at The Disney Store a few months ago. :cool1:

we did MICKEY! It was so much fun. His b-day was a month b4 our first trip to Disney so every1 was really into the Mickey theme. All of our family bought my son a lot of clothing and they all said "He can wear it Disney" so his party really got us in the mood to go to Disney! Good Luck!

We had a party at our local farm. His birthday is the end of September, so they had all of the pumpkins and hay rides going on at the same time. It was lots of fun!

I did a luau theme for DS 1st party. Luau and Nemo would be very cute together. I also got lots of great stuff at Oriental Trading Company and this week in our newspaper there was a coupon for $2.99 shipping on whole order!

My toddlers are a year and 6 days apart. Last year at 3 & 4 we did Elmo & Abby, this year it will be Dora and Diego. When they were 1&2 I did a carnival themed combined with my than 7yo daughter. I cant remember what I did when they were 2&3.

DD wasn't really into any characters at that age so we went with polka dots. We all wore polka dot clothing, had solid color plates in yellow, pink and green, did cupcakes in those same colors. It was really cute and easy to pull together.
