My son will be 3 in February and I have no idea what to get him for his birthday! I want to get him something fun that he'll be excited to open, but can't come up with anything. He's really into cars/trucks, though he has a ton of those. What is your 3 year old's favorite toy?

When we ask him what he wants for his birthday, he says he already had his birthday (Christmas) and he already got hot rods from Santa. :rotfl: When my Mom asked him what he wanted, he told her a garage, then took her out to their real garage and said "Like this. And I want Mommy to get a hot rod to put in it!" :rotfl2: Sorry buddy, a little out of budge this year!

At 3 my boys really enjoyed the Galactic Heroes (Star Wars). This is of course more exciting if he knows what Star Wars is. They have expanded the line of squatty little action figures so that if they aren't into SW there is spiderman, gi joe, etc.

The Imaginext play sets are FANTASTIC! They have several different ones, a castle, bat cave, etc. A set with some additional characters would go over well.

Three is also an age that many kids get Leapsters. In our family though, my boys grew up around video games and at 3 my youngest wanted a Nintendo DS, didn't have any interest in a Leapster.

Hope this helps.

OMG! My 4th son just turned three on Sunday. Between Christmas and his bday, he got a LOT of IMAGINEXT - and it is the BEST! (I should know what toys are a hit after having 4 boys...).

Anyway, go to the Fisher Price website and check out all of the different themes of Imaginext. We went for the City and Ocean themes and a couples pieces of the Space theme. The Castle and Batman just weren't for us.

He has not stopped playing with them since Christams and was shaking with excitement when he opened his bday gifts!!

Good Luck!

They have one of these Imaginext on clearance at Target right now for 50% off and will most likely be 75% off tomorrow but if you really want it I would either go today or very early tomorrow morning.

My DS also really likes the Imaginext stuff as well. He also really likes dinosaurs and animals. We still have Imaginext stuff from my middle DS who is now 12 that my 4yr old plays with. It never seems to get old.

My daughter just turned 3 in October and for Xmas we bought her a Fisher-Price KidTough digital camera....she loves it, but I knew she would because she always wanted to play with our real camera (yikes!) It's her new favorite toy. She plays with it all day and is really learning how to take good pictures and she is so proud of herself when she sees how good the picture comes out.

My son loves the Imaginext stuff- dragons, dinosaurs, pirate ship and jungle animals. He will play for the longest time with that stuff. He also loves his Jurassic Park Dinosaurs that roar from TRU.

Every year no matter the occassion, my DD4 is still more interested in the bubble wrap than the gift. :sad2:

My DS turned 3 on 12/1 and between birthday and Christmas, the most played with toys for him are the Imaginext toys.

We have the dragon castle, the pirate ship, the fire station and we got a 3 pack of dinosaurs from Target. The dinosaurs are his current favorite toys.

Rocky the talking robot dump truck gets a lot of play as do the Fisher Price 123 roller skates.

Leapster 2's are very played in our house by both of my 3 yr olds but you may want to hold off till next Christmas or bday for that one. My DD (who will turn 4 this coming weekend, was not ready for the Leapster when she turned 3 but we put it away and gave it to her 6 months later and its been great. My just turned 3 yr old DS has been playing the leapster with no problem since we brought my daughter's back out 6 months ago. That is the toy he asked for for his Bday. They are played with at least once a day and are a life saver on car trips.

Here are some ideas:

* Little Tikes Cozy Coupe/motorcycle....if you have the room, great for inside until weather is better

* 3 wheel scooter

* Little Tikes gas pump for cozy coupe

* Power wheels...not so fun if he has to wait for nicer weath

* GeoTrax train set

My DS is three and the Imaginext line is a big hit here too! I love that it doesn't have batteries or make noise :thumbsup2 We have the bat cave and the pirate ship...both are well made. He also really enjoys the shake n go race track (although DH helps him put it together).

Another thing he likes is the Disney DVD bingo. We play together and sometimes he plays by himself.

My 3 1/2 yr old's favorite toys:

Imaginext Dragon World Fortress & extra accessories he got from Santa.

Toy Story action figures - around $9 each - he had been playing with some well loved ones from his older brothers from years ago, so he got a bunch of new ones at Christmas.

Don't Break the Ice game - Doesn't play it as a game, but LOVES to bang out the ice, LOL. Maybe someday we'll actually explain that it's a game.

Legos/Mega Blocks - He's got a lot of Duplo & Mega Blocks that were hand me down from his brothers and cousins that he likes to play with.

Thomas the Tank Engine - We have the wooden track along with various buildings, accessories and trains. Most of it is hand me down from his brothers. My older ones will still build track layouts for him and then play with him. Kinda pricey but worth it.

I'll second GeoTrax! My oldest son received his first set of GeoTrax at 3. The original set (along with many additions) is still being played with by all 4 of my kids ages 2-10.

:)

3rd vote for Geo Trax... DD is 9 and still plays with it! It's a huge hit with all her friends, their little brothers and her cousins. Last night the whole family played with it. Fun toy and hold up great. We've had our set 5 years!

DS is 3 1/2 and loves Imaginext, Thomas the Tank Engine (wooden track) and Geo Trax.

He also likes matchbox cars.

My nephew is 3 and my sister bought him a Fisher Price castle and knights for Christmas (one that my older nephew had years ago) from Craigslist. It has a lot of knights and 3 or 4 seperate toys (horses, cannon shoter, etc) He has played with it since Christmas for hours at a time daily. He also got a Melissa and Doug train set (which was his big pricey gift) and he rarely plays with it because he is playing knights!

My DS is only 2 1/2, but he has the Imaginext Space Shuttle, Firestation/Firetruck and huge boat....he loves them all. We will be getting the Dragon Fortress for his birthday in July as his cousin received it for Christmas and he really enjoyed playing with it. He has a huge firetruck (Tonka) that he loves....and I mean huge...he can sit on it and ride it. He received a Power Wheels jeep for Christmas, but he is really too little to reach the gas....so wish I had saved it for his 3rd birthday!

My DS also received 2 sets of Magformers from QVC which are really neat. One set has 54 pieces and the other has about 40 plus 2 sets of wheels to build a car. They are like magnetic building pieces without the small marbles on the outsides that they little ones may swallow. We all love to play with them and build things.

Thanks for all the suggestions! There are some great ones on here. Mouse-ke tag is definitely on the list! Looks like a great game for him. We have a ton of geo-trax (and I agree with everyone - what a great train set!). I'm going to check into the imaginext sets and other suggestions. I think I'll take him out and show him some of these and see how he reacts. I found a garage set that he likes and I really think he'd love a castle and knights. At least now I have some ideas to work with! It's so hard with his birthday so close to Christmas - and so many hand me downs from his big brother! Thanks again!
