OT: What is Canadian Bacon?

I've always found it funny that in the USA they call cheese slices "American cheese".

Hey, you have to have some sort of descriptor to separate it from Swiss or provolone when you're ordering a sandwich. So why not?

And if you think about it, it's quintissentially American - lots of preservatives, from the land that also brought you Coca-Cola and McDonalds. I'm an American and I find it pretty fitting!

I was reading this post and then I went to Costco to do some shopping. Just so happens that they were selling "Canadian Bacon" and had it packaged exactly like both the pictures above. Both kinds -side by side. So either you are both right or Costco is also wrong.

I think there must be regional differences on this. I have never heard of nor seen peameal bacon (or any other meat). Is this another of those strange things that Easteners eat?

Dear God....have you people no mercy. Bacon, poutine... I just started Weight Watchers and while reading this thread my stomach began to turn on me. I swear soemdays I am soooo hungry my stomach thinks my throat is slit and you should hear the naughty words it growls at me. Must be good...must be good looking atyet another carrott stick without trying to throw up.
