Hey, you have to have some sort of descriptor to separate it from Swiss or provolone when you're ordering a sandwich. So why not?I've always found it funny that in the USA they call cheese slices "American cheese".

And if you think about it, it's quintissentially American - lots of preservatives, from the land that also brought you Coca-Cola and McDonalds. I'm an American and I find it pretty fitting!
