OT-What do you have for dinner on Christmas Day?

Wow...you can cook all that IN THE CAR while driving to Karate??:rotfl:
Seriously...I had to read this a few times before I figured it out...I know, I'm an airhead, LOL I was thinking..."Why do they have Karate on Christmas?":rotfl2:

I'm glad I wasn't the only one!:lmao:

I do a hot and cold buffet every year. Most years the menu is sliced ham, beans (in the crock pot), rolls, cheese & crackers, chips and dips, veggie platter and dip, meatballs (crockpot), cold shrimp and cocktail sauce, chicken wings, stuffed mushrooms, lasagne, tossed salad, potato salad, pasta salad, maybe a few other appetizers thrown in. I also make a variety of cookies and bars for dessert. Everyone eats what they want, when they want. I do most all of it the day before so I have little to no cooking on Christmas Day.

We do a big breakfast. In the late afternoon and evening we put out a spread of appetizers and desserts. Usually several families come over at that point. They can choose to eat a big meal elsewhere first if they want.

As others have posted, we also have a HUGE brunch with my side of the family on Christmas Day. But we also spend Christmas Eve with my husband's side of the family. We usually theme it, last year we did Italian, so there were plenty of pasta, antipasti dishes, and lots of great desserts. This system has worked wonderfully for us b/c we have both sides of the family near by.

This year I am doing what we used to enjoy when I was a kid. I am having a bunch of items out all day. No dinner and no dinner time. We are having my favorite Christmas tradition...homemade tamales. I am from California and I cannot find good ones here so every Christmas I make a HUGE batch.

Yumm I love homemade tamales. We've had them before at xmas too but not recently. They are alot of work.

well on christmas eve we have oudurves( sorry for spelling) and chrismtas morning we are going to be having sticky buns and homemade slush , of course this is after stockings are opened and then we will open gifts and have salami cheese and crackers for lunch and then turkey and all the fixins for supper . this happens with usually me cooking or inlaws( there turkey meal is gross lol) and then on boxing day is usually turkey and fixins from my mom which is so yummy lol

It's interesting to hear what people eat for Christmas.

It is in the 70's here most years on Christmas. The men grill fajitas outside on the BBQ pit ..... and we make tacos.

It's easy... and not a lot of clean up!

Chinese food (we're Jewish).

LOL!!! Glad we're not the only ones doing a traditional "Jewish Christmas". Will you be hitting a movie as well? There are several that are coming out just before or on Christmas Day that I'm dying to see.

BTW, Happy Chanukah!!!

OYSTERS rolled in egg then cracker crumbs a few days before Christmas then frozen till Christmas day odd but a big family tradition that has went on in my family for about 100 yrs. After we stuff ourselves with the oysters out comes the pies an cookies etc.

Christmas Eve we go to church and after come home to a movie. Home Alone, Elf or whatever else everyone votes on. That night everyone gets to there choice of munchies. Very easy and hopefully we have all the wrapping done. Christmas morning we make a fried potatoe, cheese, mushroom, onion, dish topped with fried eggs. Very filling and very good. Next we put in a big prime rib to cook for later that day. If not to many people we will probably add crab legs and cheesecake for dessert. Easy, easy, easy which makes time for new movies, games and family fun. Merry Christmas everyone!

Wow, some of you can really cook. I can barely make a box of Kraft Mac and Cheese. My mom cooks so whatever she wants to make as long as there are potatoes, I don't care. I think we will have our big meal on Christmas Eve this year and then my DH and the grandmas will drag my kids to midnight mass. I usually make the egg sausage potatoe kit from schwanns for breakfast and this year will pick up some croissants from Costco. We will probably have to make pancakes to as one of my dd's has gone vegetarian.

Happy Hanukkah to you to! I don't know if we'll go see out to see a movie because my DH will be working (he's an ER doc and always offers to work for Christmas), but Chinese food is a must.

In the past we made the traditional turkey and ham with all the fixings. This year I'm doing things a bit different. Since we have such a large family who have other stops on Christmas, it makes it hard to have a set time for a sit down meal. So this year I am having a Christmas open house. Family and friends can stop in anytime between 2pm-8pm. Stay a little while or stay all day. I'm making Italian sausage, Italian beef sandwiches, and mostaccioli. We'll have some salads and lots of finger foods and dips. I can keep these things warm in crock-pots and chafing dishes. I'm going to make an area for kids to decorate some sugar cookies too. Hopefully this works for us. Has anyone else ever had an open house?

Christmas Eve I am boycotting the extended family party an hour away. i just don't wan to make the drive.

So we are doing about 6 firebaked pizzas, and salad. this is after an early movie with the kids.

We have been doing a buffet for a while. One of my bil always stopped at our house on the way to another house so we set up a buffet one year to make it easier. The first year we did all cold and someone complained. The following year we added some hot foods and it went over better. This year we will making the food here and taking it to inlaws to make things easier for them, (NOt me)I have to change some things since they don't let anyone use their oven because of health reasons.

Christmas Eve is fondue in front of the Christmas tree after church. We do a broth and a cheese fondue and then watch the original Miracle on 34th street.

Christmas day...either Prime Rib or Ham..yet to be voted on by the family with double stuffed potatoes, a veggie, rolls, and a trifle for dessert. Breakfast is a pineapple coffee cake or homemade sweet rolls, mimosas, coffee, etc.

June

Ham, macaroni and cheese, green beans, corn, harvard beets, rolls and butter, olives, pickles. Pumpkin Pie, Apple Pie.
