OT what baby gift to get for the Mom who has everything

I echo the clothes a couple sizes up. One day you wake up the weather changed, the baby grew, and you have nothing to put on him! Its nice to have that outfit waiting. I usually think of what the next season will be and how old the baby will be then.

I also like to give a nice big piggy bank, one that actually looks like a piggy! I saw a cute one at target the other day that had a little tutu and tiara on. LOL my 6 yr old DD wanted it!

I have a friend who makes these but google produced many for sale online. It's called a "magic hankie". They take a lace handkerchief and with a couple stitches and some ribbon make a baby bonnet out of it. It's intended as a keepsake and for the stitches to be removed and carried as a hankie on their wedding day. Usually packaged with some version of a poem that goes something like:
I'm just a little Hankie
as plain as plain can be
but with a couple stitches
they made a bonnet out of me

I'll be worn from hospital
or on the christening day
then I will be neatly pressed
and carefully packed away

Then on that wedding day
So we've all been told
The well dressed bride must wear
Something that is old

So what could be more fitting
Than to look up "Little Old Me"
And with a few fine stitches snipped
A wedding hankie I will be

If perchance it is a boy
Someday he'll surely wed
Then to his bride he can present
This hankie once worn upon his head

For the mom that doesn't need bottles and diapers I like to give this, usually with a shadow box style frame that can hold the bonnet and a picture of baby in the bonnet until it's called into service.

What about a gift certificate-Can't go wrong with that! This way she'll be able to buy whatever she needs for the baby.

My new gift to every newborn now is called a Lovie. It's a cuddle blanket that comes in the shape of a lamb, bear, puppy, etc. (they have many to choose from), and you get it personalized (like their name sewn on the heart). They come in different colors and everybody that I've given them to has loved them and their children have grown up sleeping with these things and love them. Very unique idea that you don't see often.

I used embroideryetc.biz to order mine. If you go to that page, on the lefthand side you'll see LOVIE written in blocks.

I've seen one at the last christening I went to. Vey unique. The mother was loving it so much, she was showing everyone.

My sister adopted her sons from Russia. They have plenty of money and really didn't want alot more stuff. They asked that we donate money to the group that helped them get the boys (Uniting Families.) They provide food and medicine and clothes and toys for the children in orphanages in Russia and other countries, because the governments have alot more pressing issues than orphans. Anyway, this way we were helping more children to be able to live until they too could be adopted.

It made us feel good to help other kids in need and now many more kids have been happily adopted and saved from a horrible life in a starving country.

Maybe you could donate to a group like that in the baby's name. It could start a giving streak! And I can almost guarantee it will help many other children!!

Books, you can't go wrong with books. There are tons of classic board books you could get. Good Night Moon, I love Sandra Boyton, and Eric Carle.

I also love Robeez shoes. You could get the baby a cute pair of those.

Thanks for the update--I know it's been about 2 years since I ordered one from them. But I have found other places online like www.stitchit.net that sells them (they have a really cute dalmation one). Never bought from that company though, so not sure how reliable they are. I guess if anybody is interested in Lovies they can do a search and see what's available out there.

Hope Lovies reorganizes, these things are so cute! My son is 6 and still sleeps with his nearby.

I am not at all crafty and I don't think too many new moms have tonnes of time to scrapbbok so 90% of the work is done for you. It was one of my favourite gifts.

One of the best things I got from a friend who was also a new mom and lived out of town (thus missing my 2 huge showers where I was overwhelmed at all the generosity bestowed on us) was a great book called: "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" by Dr. Marc Weissbluth. I call it my "baby bible" and it is a great resource. I don't care how much money or help a mother has, it can never take the place of your child SLEEPING!!!
