My cousin just had a baby girl. She is married to a man who is very well off. She has absolutely everything that you can imagine for a new baby, What in the world am I going to get her????

What about burp cloths monogrammed with the child's name or the University logo of where the parents went college. I have gotten wonderfully unique items from a site called originalsforu.com. The woman who owns the company is wonderful to work with. Not too glamorous, but another idea is the American Academy of Pediatrics book Birth to 5 Yrs old. It is a great reference that my friend (who is a dr) gave me as a gift with my first child.

My friend got a cool basket at her shower. It was from a girl that is works at a pharmacy and it was all things you don't think of getting until you really need them. There was things for the baby like gas drops, tylenol, alcohol wipes, etc. Things for the mom like witch hazel, stool softener (not like prominently displayed however my friend proudly took hers out and announced it to the room since she was on a roll then promptly turned red, lol). It was a cool gift and so helpful.

Oh you know those personalized burp cloths are available on EBay also- some very cute ones. My SIL got 2 sets from Ebay and they are adorable. They are something so over the top- perfect for the Mom that has it all. I have 4 children and they did fine with the plain white ones. But after seeing the personalized ones, those are on my list of baby gifts- they are really really cute and something I would never had thought of had I not seen them. I don't know how much you want to spend- but the pack of them makes a nice gift on their own...but if you wanted to you could do a basket with cute bath stuff- like lotions ect...

Does she have a registry? Nothing better than getting something you really wanted.

Babystyle carries really cute, hollywood-trendy stuff, and some of it is quite reasonable.
babystyle gifts under $50

Go to www.yourstar.com and name a star after the baby. When the baby gets older you can buy her a telescope so she can see it.

If you want something more down to earth, how about the book "baby gami" it shows you how to wrap the baby in all sorts of stuff, including a map!.

We have twins. I bought a relaxation sound machine before they were born on a whim. It has been used everyday for the past 3.75 years! There are about 10 different sound choices. They block out other noises, and seemed to calm my kids at nap and bedtime. I've given one at every shower I've been to since, and they have been well received. I've seen them at Walmart in the cosmetic section, near the dehumidifiers.

Good luck!

I would do a basket filled with diaper of different sizes, wipes, shampoo, Etc. what about some shoes, or at sears(probably other places to but I go to sears) there is this smile card that is about $30 and there is not sitting fees for two years and then also get coupons in the mail. Or what about something for the mother. If she already brought everything for the baby then maybe a spa treatment before the baby is born.

I would get a pair of Robeez. The are so cute and I dont think you can have too many. They are very easy to put on, they stay on and are easy to clean. THey are the only shoes that my DS will wear. We have tried others but they are hard to get on and make it hard for him to walk. My pediatrition sp? even said that the soft sole type shoe is better for the baby anyway.

Here is a link to the site so you can see what I am talking about. http://www.robeez.com/Department.aspx?DeptID=3&PriceCat=2&Lang=EN-US

Another idea is buy a basic baby blanket and sew some loops on it. You could then attach toys to the loops. Paint the name of the little girl in puffy paint and you have a personalized baby activity center.

Books. The Giving Tree, Guess How Much I Love You, Curious George, and Goodnight Moon are staples in my gift basket.

My new gift to every newborn now is called a Lovie. It's a cuddle blanket that comes in the shape of a lamb, bear, puppy, etc. (they have many to choose from), and you get it personalized (like their name sewn on the heart). They come in different colors and everybody that I've given them to has loved them and their children have grown up sleeping with these things and love them. Very unique idea that you don't see often.

I used embroideryetc.biz to order mine. If you go to that page, on the lefthand side you'll see LOVIE written in blocks.

I think you can't go wrong with the books. Also one of my favorite gifts was a portrait studio gift certificate, and clothes that were WAY to big. You get tons of infant clothes and often never even get the chance to use them all. It was great after all the gifts were outgrown to have received that special size 18 month outfit.

I agree with books :thumbsup2 We are going to a First B-day party that is the first grandchild on both sides, we were clueless as what to get :confused3 We ended up getting a small book and a gift card.

What about...
-a really great scrapbook (you could even make it to make it even more special)
-clothes - there are so many great little girl clothes out there, and I'm sure your cousin won't mind putting another new outfit on her new baby (and taking lots of pictures for her brag book)
-a voucher offering your services as a babysitter (so the adults can enjoy a quite meal or a nice night out on the town)
-books (the number one thing I would want for my child - especially nice hardcover books that can last a lifetime)

I agree with books! Another suggestion, if she truly has everything why not make a donation to her local library, in honor of the baby. I've always donated a book, at births, deaths(in memory of), etc.. They will send a thank you and attach a sticker "plaque" to the book, and notify the person whom the book was donated in honor of. (Wow, does that sound confusing! Sorry)When the baby is older, they can go to the library and look for "their" book, and enjoy it.(It really makes the child feel special) Janice

The best gift both my children received was a wonderful snuggle blanket. DD's came from Magic Cabin (they have a website). It is silk on one side and soft flannel on the other. She is four and will not sleep with anything else. Hers is a rainbow pattern, but they make prints appropriate for boys too.

In general, Magic Cabin is a wonderful site for unique, well-made toys.

I made a "Baby's Firsts" plate for my sister's baby -

(Basically, you write the date that the baby reaches the milestone on the plate with either a ceramic pen or a permanent marker)

You could do this at a "Paint your own pottery" place; I have lots of practice though - I do this for a buisness. :)

my favorites:

- taggie blanket (www.taggies.com) - personalized for the baby. My 2-yr. old LOVES it

- a Tiffany silver rattle. classic. comes in the beautiful blue box. a terrific keepsake... (and mine got used, so have the neat teeth marks)

what about a gift for her?

- a pedicure at a spa with you?

I agree with getting either something "disposable" that she'll need lots of (diapers, especially sized up, or shampoo, etc) or something that a new mother might not know about or buy for herself, such as:

Robeez or See Kai Run shoes for baby, sized up to enjoy when he/she is walking

a special blanket (my son got a beautiful Cherish and Joy blanket that I'd never have bought since it was very expensive, but he LOVES it, and it's the softest thing I've ever felt)

a gift card to a parenting website like Mom4life or babyuniverse, so she can buy things later as she needs them

a baby sling (many mothers think they won't want one until they try it)

Or, if nothing else, how about a few subscriptions to parenting magazines? Then later, a subscription to BabyBug for the baby.

BTW, I love the library idea!
