Can you check in online with Westjet and have your boarding pass printed at the check in desk at the airport, like you can with Southwest?

My son will be flying home from Vancouver and may or may not have access to a computer to check himself in 24 hours before his flight, so I may have to check him in, if that's possible.

I don't think so, but there are self check in stands in the Vancouver terminal so he can do it there.

bbangel, this is my younger son Tim this time and he doesn't have a credit card to swipe in those machines to use as ID, like Dan did. He will have been out there for two months and took the Greyhound out...he didn't want to take it back again! ;) I guess he'll have to checkin at the Westjet desk, when he checks his bag, if he doesn't have access to a computer with a printer.

Can't say I blame him about the Greyhound!
The check in for WestJet is usually really fast, so he shouldn't have any worries if he can't find a way to print out his boarding pass. If he has baggage he would have to wait in that line anyway. When they are busy that line is usually the longest!

Yeah, you can do what you're thinking off, but there wouldn't be much point. Just check-in normally if this is a transborder flight.

I guess I was mainly thinking that he would also gets his seat assignment if he can check-in 24 hours beforehand. But he'll be travelling by himself and I don't know at this point whether he has any preference for seat location.

Is he flying from Vancouver to Toronto? If it's within Canada, I think you can check in online and have it printed there. I'd do it...I always like making sure that I have an assigned seat. It may mean absolutely nothing but psychologically...it assures me that I'm on that plane. LOL

So hijacking this with a question - is there ANY way to choose seats before a US flight? I really dislike not having all my i's dotted and t's crossed.

pxlbarrel: Yeah I know what you mean about that reassurance!

Well, I was looking at the "How To Use Westjet's Web Check In" and Q & A sections and I discovered that you can get your boarding pass reprinted at the airport or at a kiosk with just using your confirmation number (Tim doesn't have a credit card to swipe), so looks like it won't be a problem for him to check in online within the 24 hour point and at least get his seat assignment, if he wants to.

BitsnBearsMom: I also found this out for you:

Question:
Is there seat selection for Chartered or Transborder flights?

Answer:
Seat selection is available at the airport only for charter and transborder flights, as we must verify your travel documents and collect necessary information upon check in.

Question:
Can I use a WestJet Self-serve check-in kiosk or Web check-in if I am traveling to the US or to any other country outside Canada?

Answer:
Currently only WestJet guests traveling domestically within Canada are able to use the Self-serve check-in kiosks and Web check-in. All guests traveling outside of Canada are asked to visit our check-in counters where a friendly WestJet Customer Service Agent will be happy to assist you.

Oh phoey!

Oh well - limo is picking us up between 7:30 and 7:45am for our 10:20am flight so I'm sure there will be a whole plane full of people in the same boat!!

Here's hoping we can all sit together!!

Thanks for finding that info!
