OT - weekend trip to DC - good/affordable hotels?

This isn't WDW related, but thought I'd get good feedback here. In preparation for our big WDW trip in December (our first one with a LO) we are going to take a long weekend trip over the summer to the DC area to check out the sights & the new baseball stadium there. Figured it'll be good practice for sleeping in a hotel room with our LO.

Has anyone recently visited that can recommend a clean, safe & affordable hotel in the DC area? I'd like to spend less than $100/night since I'm trying to save all my money for WDW in Dec.
