OT - Waxing...

Hi everyone,

Kind of off topic but still wedding related. We are getting married Sept. 2, and honeymooning Sept. 9... I'm thinking of getting a wax sometime around then... how long would it last???

I got waxed 1 week before my wedding and then just b/c i'm anal, i went to periwigs and got 'touched up' the day before! i could have done it myself, but i didn't want to chance anything

I get my upper lip and eyebrows done. I am good for about 4 weeks and then I have to do some touch ups. Just make sure to give it a few days before any big events. My skin might be a little sensitive, but sometimes I break out a little after waxing.

I would say do it a week before. You dont want to leave it much later as you may get some growth and any sooner than a week and like another poster said, you still may have a slight rash!
It varys by what you have done but i say a week is perfect timing

Not sure where you want to get waxed - For eyebrows, I'd say it lasts 3 weeks and you want to get that done a few days before the wedding. Some people get very red around their eyes when they first have it waxed. I get the bikini area done about every 4 weeks and I got it done 2 days before the wedding. It takes a couple of days for the redness to go away if you are sensitive. I've been doing it for awhile so it lasts longer. When you first start it lasts about 2 - 3 weeks. I wouldn't bother waxing my legs, it's easier just to shave them, and same with underarms, but some folks swear by the underarm waxing. I did it twice and it hurt so bad each time there's no way I'd get it done again!

100% agree - Had my underarms waxed for the first time last week and boy it hurt - especially when she got the tweezers out!!! Lots of people have recommended the laser removal. But it's quite expensive and you need a minimum of 6 sessions (15 mins every 4 weeks). I've run out of time for this now as wedding only just over 10 weeks away.

If you get redness after getting your eyebrows waxed, consider looking for or asking your salon if they do threading. It's seems to be mostly a middle eastern-ish thing, but is becoming more common. I go to Bubbles, which around here is a cheap not so fancy chain, so call around and see if someone does it. I get my eyebrows done, but it's common to do the upper lip and rest of the face.

They take a piece of cotton thread, and they run it across in this way, ripping out whole rows of hairs. I'll be honest.. it takes longer, and it's not so much that it hurts more, but that it's not as fast as waxing.. the benefit is that you are red for about an hour or so, and don't break out. Literally not a single bump! I think the wax clogs pores, which causes the breakouts. After getting threading for the last few years, I've come to think waxing is gross. They take this stick, put it in the bucket of wax, smear it on you and stick back in the bucket again... how many people did they do that too before you? Sorry, don't mean to gross anyone out, but ick!

That does sound gross, but any reputable salon will not re-use wax or the appliction sticks. The spa I go to has a sign "we do not re-use wax" and the girl who does mine actually puts a new container of wax in the heater each time and the sticks are disposed of after a couple of swipes and of course after each client. Even the paper you lay on is disposed of after each client.

Just like anything else, go to a reputable place, get references and make sure it is very clean. Many spas and salons are listed with the Better Business Bureau as well and you can make sure there are no complaints about them. Always be sure the spa and salon you choose is clean and doesn't use products from one person to the next
