OT: Washington DC-airport to city transportation?

Going to DC this weekend (I hope, DD is home sick, day 5 with a fever). We aren't renting a car, so we need to get from Dulles to downtown Washington (staying 3 blocks from the White House). Anyone know what my best option is? I'm considering taxi, limo, or public transportation. TIA.

You could always take the Metro. Great way to get around DC.

When I was in DC last summer I used "Super Shuttle". They have a desk near the other ground transportation. I had used them in Florida before and have been happy with their service. You can also schedule them for pick up at the hotel for return to the airport.

Unfortunately there isn't a metro at Dulles Airport.

Maybe you can take the shuttle from the airport to the nearest metro stop? They aren't cheap though. Well, someone we know went from IAD to Columbia, MD so that cost $100. Maybe from the airport to DC isn't that much.

Can you change your flight and fly to DCA (Reagan) instead? There is a metro there and it is much closer.

from dulles airport , grab the courtesy shuttle bus to the holiday inn fair oaks. Then walk across the parking lot to the metro bus stop. it will take you to the nearest metro station

Really? I guess it depends what airline and from where.

If you want to use public transportation (and are not carrying anything too heavy) go here and input your destination and Dulles as departure point:

I live 10 minutes from Dulles airport and I see their buses on the Dulles access road all the time. The problem is unless there is a metro stop near where you're staying, you'll have to haul your stuff or find a cab at the metro station at Falls Church or somewhere downtown. Other option is bite the bullet and take a cab right to your hotel. We drive into DC all the time, but we grew up here. Dulles is usually cheaper than Regan National. It depends on where you're coming from and what airline. I would not recommend going to Fair Oaks and catching a bus to the subway. It's easier to use the Washington Flyer. They have more info on their site.
