A few months ago I learned that I have rosacea, I just came back and I have some redness but no bumps. I brought a floppy straw hat which I think did not cover my face that well. For future trips I was wondering what kind of hat do you bring. I have baseball hats should bring one of those, or what kind do you suggest? (Yes I did put sunscreen every day). If also have other suggestions o deal with roscea and disney world I'll be glad to have them!I just want to learn from my mistakes, and thought someone could help me out with this.

Hi! :)
I haven't posted much lately, but this is a topic that affects me as well. I too have rosacea, it is pretty severe, even though I dont have the bumps either. Pretty much everything and anything causes it to flare up, the sun and heat being a major trigger. When I went to Disney in May 2008, I was told to wear SPF60 and apply it every hour, and to also wear a hat. I brought a baseball cap and wore it most of the time. Of course I did have flareups (which will happen anyways), but my face never got burnt at all. I think the key is to wear a hat, stay in shade when possible, and apply a good sunscreen with a high SPF very frequently....
Good luck!!! :)

I found out I had Rosacea a few years ago. I wear sunscreen from my dermitologists, mineral makeup with spf in it and usually a baseball hat. I do okay in the parks.

Mineral makeup is better for those with Rosacea at least according to my doctor. Hope this helps.:goodvibes

Clinique's redness solutions line is helpful too. The cooling gel helps for spot flareups that get sting, and the mineral powder really helps tone down the redness.

I'm worried I'm going to look like a lobster in all my pictures next week. Not only do I have rosacea, but I'm now on Accutane too, which makes you more sun sensitive. Oh yeah, and I'm a fair skinned redhead!

I have a pretty bad case as well and am a fair skinned red head.....

I LOVE the Clinique as well! I have also had successes with the line from Sephora. Stress is what causes a flair up for me but while I am at the world, I use the Neutrogena with Helioplex. I have found that works wonders! It is not oily and lasts all day! Buy the spray one!

Thank you for this thread.

This summer I participated in an acne study and the nurse mentioned that I am more rosacea than acne.

Did a quick web search and lots of things started to make sense to me.

Can begin after 30 with no teen year acne. <check>

Triggers vary. Including: hot baths, cold weather, exercise
<check, check, check>

For the study I was asked to stop using my current face wash from the dermatologist and the two topicals I was using.

My face didn't get better or worse without the wash & topicals. I expected it to get worse. :confused3
But I would like to see some improvement before our trip in December, so I am ready to try a new treatment.

For treatment do you go to your primary care doctor or to the dermatologist??

Thank you for the success tips above.
I am going to be more consistent about sunscreen and hats.
:thumbsup2

Thank you for the replies, to answer the last poster I am getting treated by my dermatologist. Since coming home on sunday I decided to use the cream I for a day or two twice a day instead of once a day and it seems to cleared up.( My dermatologist cut me down to once a day from to twice a day in at appointment before I left for WDW.) I think for my trip in February I will bring a couple of different types of hats.

I am being treated by a dermatologist as well. I've been doing IPL sessions and they have been extremely effective. It is taking a while because I had a couple of setbacks, but the difference is very noticeable.

The sun triggers my Rosacea as well...sometimes even the sunblock - certain ingredients can cause it to react..some people are more sensitive to ingredients than others, so it may be worth trying more than one lotion to see if your skin does better with it.

This year, I spend extra money for wide brim hats that are rated SPF 50 ..think it was Oregan Research? Can't remember if that's the exact name, but they may be worth looking into.

I did that as well. It seemed to be working good for me. I don't get breakouts as bad as I used to. My skin is extremely sensitive but it seems to help the medication I have work much better

The treatments (IPL) did not work for me at all. I was so bummed, and my doctor was surprised.

it's a light treatment

I have pics - but not sure if i can post the link..

I will put it up, but someone can remove them if it violates anything about posting links on here.

We stopped after the 4th. My doctor said since i wasn't responding at all, he didn't want me putting out any more money

progesterone cream is currently helping me...taking it for estrogen dominance...and it was a pleasant side effect for my skin to get better. it's about 70% improved...but it's not "for" that reason!
