My DH and I have 4 children and after the last one last year he decided to be the one to see the Dr. to prevent more children. He was cleared in December that nothing was swimming anymore. I stopped nursing in May and just had my first cycle in June. I am now 8 days late so I took a test and it was positive. Going to have blood work done today. How common is this to happen after a vasectomy? He did all follow up appointments!! I am on the verge of tears--I know God is in control but is still hard to comprehend at this moment. I have not even told him yet. We just figured I wasn't regular yet.

I personally have two friends whose husbands had vasectomies and were "cleared" and both of them now have one more child. I know you are in shock now, but CONGRATULATIONS! I guess God really wanted you to have another.

Oh my goodness! Congrats!

Looks like one more was in the plans for you!

BTDT - no vasectomy, but I had just gone off bcp's, because I wanted to get an IUD - actually had the appointment scheduled!

#3 had just turned 1. I wasn't going to tell DH until I got to 12 weeks (figuring 1 in 4 pregnancies end up with a m/c, and I never had one - must be due), but I couldn't stop crying.

Turned out we were expecting twins! They're now 5, and I can't imagine not having them in our lives! :lovestruc

But don't feel guilty for feeling upset - I literally cried for weeks!

I just want to wish you good luck today. I had a bit of a scare a little while ago, so I know what your going through. I know what its like to have in your head "Ok, I'm done! Now I can get some of MY life back now." and then you get a curve ball thrown at you. Whatever happens, I just want to wish you good luck!!!

This is my 6th pregnancy (had 2 m/c) and I know this is it for me. We've been planning on DH getting surgery and what you are now going through is my biggest fear! I want to know the answer to your question on how common it is. Do we both need to get fixed to prevent it?

I guess God really wanted you to have another baby. I know it's hard now, but it will get better. You honestly NEVER hear how miserable people are with their "surprise", but rather how they cannot imagine their life without them. You will feel this way too after the initial shock wears off. Tell DH...you need his support and he will need yours.

After you get settled, join us on the Moms-to-be thread on the community board and we will be there to support you too!:goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

Wow! Like a prior poster, I know a couple with a vasectomy baby, and another couple with a tubal ligation baby. All I can say is, things will turn out the way they're supposed to. Hugs!

DH just had his vasectomy 4 weeks ago, he has to go back in a few months to check his counts. Your story is my biggest fear!!! Good luck in whatever the outcome - and please - keep us posted!

I work in a hospital lab
it happens more than you think!
good luck:grouphug:

Good luck~ I know you must be in complete shock right now, but I'm sure that everything will work out wonderfully for you.

I am nursing my dd and just got my cycle back, too, (earlier than I was expecting it- with my older dd I didn't get it back until 12 months!).

Good luck to you and please come back and let us know how everything goes with the blood work!

I had a " big surprise!" at age 44, due just when my oldest was going to be starting college. A little upsetting at first, not to mention shocking....but honestly and truly, the best thing that could have happened in our lives!

I know you'll get there too, hugs and congratulations.

Some friends of mine just found out that they are expecting after hubby had surgery. Their kids are 9 and twins that are 7. Not sure when he had his surgery, but it was a while ago. They were stunned!

OK--the Dr. just called and said the blood test level was ZERO!! The one I took at home at 6:00am said positive. They said it must have been a false positive--never really heard of those always have heard of false negatives. Go back 3 years when I found out with DS--I took one at home it was positive went to the Dr. later in the day and theirs was negative. Two weeks another home positive and went back to Dr. and his was positive as well.
Right now I do not know what to think. I would think the blood test would be accurate so I will wait a little longer and then if nothing happens retest. I know that I will not take any of my migraine medicine until I start. :confused3 I am just really confused.

My aunt and uncle were another couple who had a baby after a vasectomy. They had three girls, had a vesectomy, and then surprise...finally had their boy!!!

We have friends who had baby number 3 after a vascetomy. They sued the doctor and won a large amount of money.

By the way, five kids are lots of fun!!!

:sad2: Seriously, sued the doctor??!! Is there anything we don't sue over? Wrongful death, yes, but a pregnancy, I think not.

My biggest fear is a spontaneous reversal.
DH is going on 4 years with his vasectomy. I was late 2 weeks last month. I was terrified. Must have been the moon or something :lmao: .

good luck to you;)

I was like this, took a blood test & it came back negative (I worked at a lab), two days later - took a home pregnancy test - positive.
