My 9 year old daughter got her ears pierced yesterday and they are not even on both sides. It was bothering me and then she noticed and was upset by it.
The question is, what should I do?

She might want to try to keep it in for fear of having her ears repierced but I'm not going to let her do that. I feel that she would be making a bad choice out of fear and in a couple of years she will NOT want to have uneven ears. The it's too late to let the hole close up.

So, I am going to give her the choice of removing the one earring, letting it heal and getting it redone OR removing both.

If I leave in one--which I know is silly looking--how soon can I have the uneven ear redone? It would not be too near the same hole. Since it hasn't been 24 hours can they just redo it now?

I'm sure I'm not the first one this has happened to so I'm looking forward to other people's experiences. Thanks!!

Mine are unevenly pierced and I hate it. I don't wear earrings all that frequently because of it. Best bet is to let them close up (or at least one of them) and get it repierced. It shouldn't take that long to close up if it was just done....and she'll prefer it in the long run.

I would suggest picking the hole that doesn't look "right" and letting that one close up to redo in a month. That way she's only redoing one and not both. Once you are ready to redo...I would mark the ear myself that way you can be sure that they will come out even.

If she just got them done, take them out and let them close up.

I would let it close up and redo it. I don't know how long that will take.

And, if you leave the one pierced and don't want to keep the earring in it -- I think I have heard of people putting a sting in it and tying it off to keep it from closing up.

my DD had that happen

they pierced even & over a year the somehow "moved"??????

so we took it out & let it close & then about a year later we re-pierced just the one ear

they look perfect now & you cant even really notice the other hole!!!

I agree with others who said they would take one out and repierce later. The one thing I wanted to add was that I would got back to wherever I had them done and demand my money back or ask for a credit so that when you are ready to repierce you don't have to pay for it again. If they screwed up, you shouldn't have to pay to get it fixed.

My daughter got an ear infection and we had to take them out about 6 weeks after we got them done. The next morning I tried to poke through to see if it was still open and it had already closed up! I would close up the off one and try again.

OT ear piercing question: We got my daughter's ears pierced a year ago and had to let them close up due to infection. Should I try again? I had bought gold earrings and that's what I think did it, we were very good about cleaning. I don't know if she just had sensitive ears and will be prone to infection or if I just screwed up by putting the wrong kind in her ears. She is willing to try again but I don't want to put her through if she is going to get another infection. Thanks!

Where did you have it done? Every time I've gone to an ear-piercing (for my dd and several of her friends), they've marked the spot with a marker and asked if we were happy with it, THEN they did the piercing. I've always had good experiences going to Merle Norman at the mall, very clean, very professional and very nice people. Good luck!!!

I was thinking the same thing. If it is that obviously uneven then before you do any removing take her back to the place and show them their mistake and ask them for a refund or store credit/gift card so that you can come back w/o paying again! I feel so bad for your daughter. All the excitement of getting her ears pierced and now such drama for her! Here is some pixie dust!:wizard:

Did you take her to a doctor or professional jeweler or piercing shop? Any of these places will make it right and be horrfied by their error. If you took her to the teenager making minimum wage at the mall... well, don't do that for the re-pierce. This is one of those times you are better off ponying up the higher cost of having a real expert do the job.

I would take both out, let them heal completely and try again in six months.
