Sorry i know this is offtopic but I could really use the advice of everyone here--today I received a postcard from a company I had recently submitted my application to for their reservations dept stating that my qualifications did not need meet their needs..a very generic standard post card that they send out to everyone they don't call back.. A yr and half ago I interviewed with this company but was told the reason they did not offer me the job was because I was only seeking parttime work, I was 8 months pregnant which honestly I think had something to do with their decision as well...Would it look bad if I called them and asked them why they did not consider me? It's just strange that this time they won't even give me an interview...I have experience in the field...and I know they are hiring a lot of people since this is a resort..any advice here would help..thanks!

I'm not an expert, but my dh does do the interviewing if they need someone for his team. I would say if you have tried twice with no success, it is time to move on. If they already sent you the post card (which is very common), they probably already made their choices and the positions have most likely already been filled. Usually a follow up call is made just after you send in your resume, and just after the interview. I can't see how calling now would do any good, and could actually hurt you for future positions with other similar companies. People talk.

ok that's what i was thinking to but a friend said I should call and see why...and yes in the area I'm referring to people in this field do talk so I'm wondering if that's not all part of this..but thanks for the responses!

I'll be honest with you -- no HR person worth their salt would ever tell you specifics as to why you weren't considered for a position. Giving people this info just gives them fuel, sometimes just to argue, or at worse case, a lawsuit.

Agreed:thumbsup2

As an HR Mgr I would not tell someone why they were hired.

Even though you weren't interviewed this time, there may be notes from your last interview that led to them not hiring you.

Help wanted ads are drawing tons of responses. So I bet there were plenty of other applicants with experience as well. I am getting 75 responses a day for each of the 4 postings my company has up.

Thank you, exactly what I was looking for--an HR manager's opinion! the job search continues for me and millions of others

It rarely hurts to send a follow up "Thank you for the time and consideration . . ." As well as a mention, that if something changes, you are still interested.

As a person who used to engage in hiring, sometimes a new hire just does not work out and leaves within a week or so after hire. It is much easier to turn around and offer the job to a recent interviewee than to start the process all over. A letter in the above nature opens a door to alleviate the awkwardness encountered by having to contact a second choice.

Good Luck
