When Nature strikes it reminds us all how insignificant we really are in this world. We should be greatful for what we have and be compassionate towards the less fortunate. My heart goes out to all the Icelandic people that are suffering and have lost everything they ever loved and worked for. I also feel very sad for all the animals that have lost their grazing grounds and perhaps their lives. Iceland has been struggling economically for quite a while, but thanks to the ruggedress of the Icelandic People they have been able to stay strong against all adversities.

The ash plume as it rises into the atmosphere accumulates an electric charge analogus to stroking a cat on a dry day. Once the ash accumulates enough charge it discharges as lightning.

I was wondering the same thing. This volcano must be scary for the farmers living nearby, so glad that farmer founded the two horses that were lost in the cloud dust.
