We are leaving for a camping trip shortly and have been lucky enough to have someone watch our 12 yr old golden retriever for recent trips. He is not a well boy but still game for anything as long as he is with us. He used to travel on the floor of our Avalanche in the back with the kids. Cramped quarters to say the least. He is too arthritic for that now,so he will probably have to sit in the middle of the front seat with hubby and I. I was just thinking though....would it really be a poor idea to put him in our trailer. It is not longer hot out so temperature is ok. I would block him in our bedroom (we have a 30ft trailer) where nothing could fall on him. He could also brace against the bed and wall if we have to stop fast etc. He would be able to lay down or stand, depending on how he was feeling? What do you think?

I don't really think that is a good idea. If it was my dog I wouldn't do it. Anything can happen. I just don't think it is very safe. I would guess he would probably be happier sitting with his family then all alone in the trailer.

I wouldn't. If something happens, you wouldn't know it until you stopped somewhere and then he could have been hurting for awhile. He could freak out from the motion and hurt himself, or get scared b/c you aren't there. And if, heaven forbid, you have an accident, he could be hurt or escape in the chaos. as the PP poster said, if it were my dog, I wouldn't do it. I'd keep him in the truck where I could keep an eye on him.

Maybe you can arrange more frequent stops so he can stand up a bit, stretch the old bones and get back in the truck. Or, if it's just going to be too difficult, kennel him while you're gone with someone trustful who can look out for him. Just MHO

Thanks for the quick responses. We will keep up in the front seat with us.:)

Don't ask me how I know :rolleyes1 but a tt has to much bounce for anything or anyone to sleep comfortable on the bed, trust me. He's never be able to just lay down and rest. And our tt has shocks but you couldn't even sit on the couch while traveling you will be bounced off on your butt.

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: I won't ask you how you know.

I just wanted to add, that we have an RV so I don't know if that is different but even in the Fall it gets very warm, almost hot and we have to use the generator and A/C's while traveling with the dogs. Our girl (13) gets panting very badly as she also has health problems.

Ain't that the truth!?! :rotfl: On our first camping trip, DH had to drive the TT to the dump station (it was a last minute trip and no full hookups available). It was early morning and I wasn't dressed, so rode in the TT as he towed it. OMG! Even at 5 mph thru the campground, I about got bounced thru the roof. I was stunned at the amount of bounce!

We have a 5th wheel toy hauler. We keep the dogs' water dish in the back. On one trip we forgot to pick the water dish up before we pulled out of our site to head home. When we got home the water was still in the dish!
