We will be flying out of Buffalo to LAX but Dh is booked one airline (airtran) and my dd's and I are flying with (SW). We had some extra AirTran credits that covered the cost of DH's flight but found better much deals for the 3 of us on SW (our return flights are all on the same airline). We managed to have flights that leave and arrive within an hour of each other (Dh's leaves first). Now my question is will I need a letter to say that is ok for me to fly with the girls without dh. I travelled to without DH last summer and we had our lawyer draw up a letter saying I had permission to take them out of the country and I remember showing it at the border (and I think even at airport security) but not to go on the plane. So I am wondering if I still need such a letter as we will be crossing the border and going through security check at the same time? Does anyone know?:)

Will your husband be going through security at the airport at the same time? If so then I wouldn't think you would need it. Have him with you when you are at the check-in counter and through security, if he can stay with you until you board then do that as well. If you are really worried have the letter with you - if only just in case something happens with his flight - cancelled, delayed...then you would at least have the option of going on without him or having him catch up when he could get a later flight.
HTH!

What city are you leaving from? In Montreal ( Trudeau Airport ), You go through US Customs before boarding. I would just all show up to go through security and customs together ( even if it's early for your flight ), then you can wait for your flight in the Terminal.

Sounds like your going out of a us City since your crossing the boarder & flying American planes? My wife is Canadian(from Hamilton Ontario) and she takes our American born daughter home with her all the time. She flies from LAX to Buffalo and drivers over.Has never had a problem.Last Xmas when we crossed the Rainbow bride at the falls.Canadian Customs never even asked for her passport, nor did US on the way back in.You will be fine since you will be at the airport the same time.

Are you crossing the border together for your flights? If so, then you won't need it. I have only heard of divorced parents needing it to cross the border. You don't need a letter to fly once you're in the US. The point of the letter is to prove you have permission to leave the country with them, not that you have permission to fly. I have crossed the border several times with my kids and not dh and never had a letter. We have crossed at Queenston-Lewiston (flying from Buffalo) and at Sarnia (flying Detroit). I have also flown with my kids without dh (from MCO to BUF) with no questions asked.
