Hi Guys,

Has anyone stayed in Tobermory before? We are thinking of taking the kids this summer for a few days and we are looking for suggestions on a place to stay or camp.

Thanks :goodvibes

I haven't been to Tobermory in 15 years, but I remember liking it. There wasn't much to do....but I was REALLY preggy, so a little walk, a nice dinner and a good sleep was good for me.

We stayed at a motel....The Grand 'something or other'

There wasn't a selection of accomodations.

It's a real diving town....I don't dive.

It was very pretty. But I think kids might have more fun at Sauble Beach.

Or I would say, jump on the Che Chemaun, and come visit us on beautiful Manitoulin Island. I have lived here for 30 + years, and it is beautiful! Not far from South Baymouth (where the ferry docks on the Island) there is a place called Gordon's Park, you can look it up on the net gordonspark.com they have nature trails, a pool, camping, t-pee camping, and great astronomy nights. They also have sleeper cabins. We have used the ferry a few times, and there is a little to do at Tobermory, there really isn't a lot. We have actually had time to kill there, waiting for the ferry a few times, and have done the boat tours, and flower pot island, but they were done in about 2 hours. If you need any more info about the Island, please feel free to contact me!

My brother is a diver, and used to go to Tobermory the years a tropical trip was out of budget. It's "okay" from what he tells me - but there is little to do and very limited accommodations. Unless you dive, he suggests looking elsewhere. Just his 2 cents.

Tobermory is beautiful! I actually lived there for a short time and if your an outdoorsy person there is so much to do. Bruce Peninsula National Park is right there and a great place to camp. The park has recently built a huge visitors centre that is supposed to be amazing. The park also puts on some great family programs and hikes that you can attend. Theres a great beach for kids called singing sands....as you can guess very sandy and shallow for young kids. Theres also glass bottom boat tours for those that don't dive but would like to see a shipwreck. You can take a boat over the Flowerpot Island and spend a day there hiking and take a tour of the lighthouse!

:goodvibesThanks for the responses! I would love to do the glass bottom boat tours, Flowerpot Island and Manatoulin Island.
I've seen pics and it looks beautiful!

Manitoulin is only an hour and a half ferry crossing. If you haven't done the ferry crossing everyone should do it at least once. Also, everything on the Island is very economical, and alot of things here are offered at a little to no cost. I don't know when you plan on coming this way, but Civic holiday weekend, we have Haweater Weekend Festival, with awesome fireworks over the north channel with the infamous swing bridge in the background, and a street festival. The following weekend is Countryfest here, this year, Michele Wright is here. Just some ideas!

Tobermory is beautiful! There is lots to do if you look. Depending on the time of year there are lots of different events. Fish fries and special exhibits at the National Park Visitors center. Lots of hiking. We go a few times a year since it's only a couple of hours from us. There is a place I really want to stay next time http://www.otbta.ca/directory/products/Cha-Mao-Zah.html they have traditional native teepees to camp in and lots of scheduled things to do. Pricey but sounds like it would be sooo worth it!

Climbing to the top of the tower near the park visitors Center is really nice. Beautiful view. There is an orchid festival in the spring ..look up tobermory events and see what interests you. I can't wait to go up again!

Ohh..and look up the Bruce Passport. Not sure if it's started yet this year. It's a list of places you visit and get a hole punched in a card for a contest. It's a great way to find neat places.
