I was taking a mental break at work and playing a rousing game of "Jelly Cars" (great free app!) when all of a sudden my iTouch died. When I left work I plugged it into my car cord which allows me to listen to my music and charges it at the same time and got nothing. Sitting here now with it plugged into the computer and again... got nothing. Of course it is out of warranty and the "estimated cost" to fix it, as per Apple's website, is around $150. I can get a new one8GB one (mine is a first gen 8GB) for only $70 more.

Has anyone had an iTouch do this - just go kaput with no warning? Ugh!! What am I going to do at work without my music?!?!

Did You try resetting in with your computer. I usually just restore mine to the original settings and that helps. I know how your feeling because I would about loose it if my Itouch died...im using it right now!

I can't do anything with it. I plug it into the computer and it doesn't do anything. It is like the Windows blue screen of death.... it is the iTouch black/blank screen of death. :)

I have a similar problem with my iPod classic on occasion. Don't panic.

Try this:

To reset the iPhone or iPod Touch, press and hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button simultaneously at the same time for at least ten seconds, then the LCD display will clear and the Apple logo appears on the black background. When Apple logo appears, reset is done.

I just did a quick google on "hard reset itouch" and that came up. You may want to google a bit further if that doesn't work for you. A hard reset on my Classic always does the trick. Hope this helps!

I've done similar with my Nano and it brought it back!

This has happened to my iPod Touch once or twice, and the hard reset has always worked well to fix it. One thing I've learned with technology is to be patient. Electronics cannot always be 100% stable and you have to learn to expect things to go wrong once and awhile. :)

I agree try the hard reset. On the iPhone it is hold the home button and the On/Off button down at the same time until the apple appears. I don't have a Touch to know if it is the same buttons.

Whew! I held both buttons down and then when I passed it over to DH to look at he pushed the on/off button again and it came on. Nobody at work has to deal with my music-less wrath now.

Thanks everyone!
