My DD just turned 9 months. We have been trying some table foods along with her formula and baby food. We have tried the Gerber Finger Foods and graham crackers. Day care gives her fruits and veggies. She only has the 2 bottom teeth. What are some other ideas to try with her. We will be going to Disney for her first birthday and I hope to not have to bring lots of baby food. I also hope to maybe have her on milk by then. Thoughts on that as well?? Thanks!! :cool1:

cheerios :), mashed banana

My girls liked mango in a baby food grinder.

The graham crackers need to not have honey in them--Honey isn't good for babies until they are 12 months b/c of the risk of---I think, botulism (but I don't recall).

Remember with foods--follow the 3-day introduction rule.....and offer something several sittings to correctly ascertain whether or not she needs time to just adjust to a new food before assuming that she doesn't like it.

My daughter had the same reaction to green beans about 10 times. She really hates green beans. Other foods she had a funny reaction to for the first couple of times...but repeated offerings...she got used to it--and some of those once rejected foods became favorites.

Try mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, just cut them a little smaller.

Spaghetti is good but it can get a little messy.

We used to cut up small pieces of meat (chicken) by the time they were one, my kids never ate much baby food by the time they were one.

scramble eggs are soft and really no chewing required. They may have applesauce as a side or tiny pieces of chicken work well too.

Be sure it's only the YELLOW of the egg my dd eats those every moring. I've NEVER spoon fed my dd she started talbe food about 9.5 months before that it was all mama's milk. I was very worried b/c she was my first that i never offered baby food and ceral too, but though what's the point of spoon feeding my child. And she now eats about 2-3 meals a day with us just whatever we are having maybe a cooked a little softer or with out butter, salt ect. Her new fav is corn on the cob, LOVEd it!
we are going on vacation about 9 days after her first b-day and i will NOT be bringing anything special for her, just feed her off my plate while we are there, i'll take all the kids, gramcrakers, snacks ect but allison eats mostly what they do except for the milk, she loves her mama's milk and will through out our trip, just easier for us then cups/bottles, ect. but i do agree that milk will be easier to do in the parks then formula.

I would stick with formula until after a year. Ask your pediatrician at your daughter's nine month well baby check. That's also when they'll check her for anemia. Formula has iron in it. Cow's milk doesn't. Also there's a theoretical risk of developing food allergies with milk and egg whites prior to one year of age.

I did fruits and veggies of course. Toast, crackers on occasions, beans are great finger foods too especially kidney beans my dd loves them and has for some time. Goldfish are good snacks and cheerios of course.

quesadilla cut up small is a good one too.

I'd ask her peditrican about starting at about 11 months on whole milk but in my opinion the formula especially if powdered will be easier as I don't think the restraunts server whole milk I think and I could be wrong that they serve mostly 2% milks. :confused3

And I've been told be ped that honey cooked in foods doesn not carry the risk of botulism. I gave honey nut cherrios about 9-10 months. I guess the cooking of it would fix it.

All the above are great suggestions for foods for a one year old.

One thing I found to be really terrific when they were first starting out with solid foods was this: http://www.rightstart.com/global/store/product~item~472~dept~mealtime~cat~feeding+accessories.html

It's called a Baby Safe Feeder. You put the food in the mesh and they're able to eat it through that. I would end up using it more for fruits like bananas , strawberries, blueberries. I always had this fear of them choking , even when I cut up the food small.

I was also worried giving my DD (now 15 mos) foods because she had so few teeth! Her 1st one didn't come in til 11 mos, and now only has almost 6. She's been eating just table food pretty much since 12 mos though. Grilled cheese is great, break into pieces. Really any type of cheese. Cheerios (I broke those into pieces at first!), toast, pancakes, waffles, lunch meat, noodles, soups, veggies. It was difficult for me, because my older DD was eating toddler foods at 3 yrs still, but the second one wanted nothing to do with that, so we had to adjust. I plan on getting some of the toddler fruit/oatmeal bars for breakfast for her on our trip...they're really soft, and the toddler fruit puff (come in a tall jar)...she LOVES those.

I wanted to add that it really doesn't matter how many teeth the baby/child has as long as they are develepmently ready for them, as in showing ready signs of chewing, mashing, swallowing at the right time. Gums will mash soft cooked chuncked food as well as teeth! :)

Thanks everyone for the tips. I wasn't really planning on starting her on milk too much before she is one, but I don't think a few weeks should hurt. I am going to talk to my doc next week at her 9 mo visit. My parents didn't have formula as babies and they survived. :teeth:

Tonight I gave her potaoes, carrots and cottage cheese and she went crazy. She didn't even want her applesauce baby food.

I am taking my DD13 months to disney in Sept. right around her birthday she started to refuse all babyfood. we are bringing fruit cups, applesauce, cheerieos, and earths best breakfast bars. they are the perfect size for her and I think they are softer then adult bars. We plan on just giving her some of our meals and eating at the buffets a lot. I sure hope they serve whole milk I wonder if there is a way to find out.

When my children were that age they got whatever it was that I fixed for a meal. Teeth or no teeth, they are able to "gum" the food. I would just make sure everything was cut up in itty bitty pieces. This prevented food aversions and them expecting to have "special" meals. I also think that if it is only going to be a week or so that 2% milk is not going to hurt them. It's the long-term that the peds. are worried about.

Be careful withthings like eggs, strawberries and of course anything with peanuts in it, some Dr say if these foods are given too early (under age 2) the child can develop an allergy - of course how do you stop your mom whose has already fed your 9 month old strawberries :bitelip: they should by 1 be able to take milk and things like cheeses, yogurt cottage cheese...-but talk to your dr thay always can make you feel better!!
