Does anyone else have a hard time finding a decent swimsuit for junior sized girls? My 13yo DD is in a junior size 1 and can no longer fit into girls because she is too tall, and EVERY junior dept I look in for suits ONLY has bikinis, and really immodest ones at that! I had to buy her a bikini and she wears a shirt over it because she is so uncomfortable in it. (I know it is unusual for a teenager to be so modest, but that is just who she is) I have even tried to find her board shorts to wear over it (at her request) and can only find ones that cost $35 or above. Any suggestions?:confused3

Have you tried shopping in sporting goods stores? You may find decent sales this coming up on swim suits. My girls usually wear the racing type suits (you can usually find some modest ones). I also recently shopped for bathing suits. What about trying the misses/women's departments? I found some modest suits at most of the stores I went to (not a huge selection, however). You can also try Land's End (or see if your Sears carries LE products).

I understand your issues.

My DD had success with one piece suits at Dicks Sporting Goods... Speedo brand.

Try any other sport store near you, like Dunham's, etc.

Lands End also has nice suits- their tankini is young looking.

You will pay an arm and a leg at the sport store, but join their loyalty program to rack up points and get a discount on a future purchase of tennis shoes. It is more important that DD has a healthy self image. Try to get her out of the t-shirt phase with a one piece suit. You want her to be comfortable in her skin with good posture to develop self-confidence in all aspects of her life.

Just went through this with my DD11, who can pass for 14! UGH.

We found cute suits at Limited Too. They are all on sale now, so it wasn't that much of a hardship. (40%off) I don't buy anything at that store unless it's on sale. (Heck, I don't own $50 jeans!)

Lands End also has some cute ones.

I agree, these tweens are having a hard time finding clothes all around. Although, I've had some luck at Aeropostle in the past few months. They seem to have sales weekly.

My other challange is shoes. My DD wears a woman's 9.5! Not only do we have a hard time finding something appropriate, I have a hard time finding something that I don't have to take out a second mortgage for either!

Ah, kids!

Good luck!

Leigh

Thanks everbody! That is a great idea to check sporting goods stores. I have looked at Lands End for her, but I have not seen a size small enough for her. A womens 4/6 is too big. There is a Limited Too outlet not too far from my house, so I will check there too.(but I also will only buy it if it is on sale!!)

I have such a hard time finding a suit for my just turned 12 yr old. She is 5'5 and likes to be covered. We bought a couple tankinis at Limited too. I LOVE their suits and they can be quite expensive....just wait for a sale! This will be her last year in those suits and next year I have NO idea what I'll do. MANY of her friends have the same problems trying to find a cute suit that fits their body right.

My DD12 will be 13 in August.
She's about 5'5" & only wears one piece suits (she is a year-round swimmer on 2 competitive teams).

We order her suits from thefinals.com - they have a grab bag price for one-piece suits. If you get 3 or more, they only cost about $21.00 each.

**These are the same type of suits you'll find in a sporting goods store.

I have had a horrible time finding a suit for dsd13!!! She doesnt want her naval uncovered so we were looking for a longer tankini or one piece and she wants shorts or a skirt, because down there, is um, y'know mom!!:rolleyes1

We have yet to find a suit for our vacation that is NEXT WEEK and she doesnt get back from her moms until the day BEFORE we leave. Guess we will hit the outlet malls the first day or so! She has last years suit, but she has grown about 4 inches since then and that tankini has more space between the top and bottom now!

Count me in as another mom struggling with bathing suits. My dd is 12. Thankfully she is still fitting in a few of her size 14 speedo 1 pieces from last year. I also got her a couple of size 16 that work.

I dont know what I would do otherwise. And the camp she is going to only allows 1 piece or tankinis -- no bikinis at all.

I struggled with this recently too. DD-11 size 0 jr. needed a one piece suit for camp, she has lots of bikinis but only one pieces are allowed at camp. I also had luck with Limited Too size 16. She also took her one piece speedo swim team suit, though I doubt she'll wear it since it's not very cute, and dd is all about the fashion.

My DD was in the same boat. She is on the diving team and they needed one pieces to practice in. Dicks has speedos and you can usually get them on sale. Sams carries Speedos but this year I have only been able to find the ones with the "Cups" and she really does not have anything to put into the cups if you know what I mean :rolleyes1 . She is 16 and built like a boy. In womens she is a "0" so I know how difficult it is to get swim suits. If you go online make sure you check out Dicksportinggoods not DICKS....if you go there you will be in for a HUGE surprise...... I did it by accident and oh my goodness!!!!!!

Kohls also usually carries Speedo one pieces, and they have several styles of tankinis. My 7 yo is already in a size 16 swimsuit, so I don't know what we're going to do next year! Actually, most of the size 16 one pieces won't even fit her now because she's so long in the torso. She can wear a 12 on the bottom, but needs a 16 for the tankini top to be long enough. We couldn't get a Limited Too tankini this year, because they are made for somebody with a little more "on top", which she probably won't have for a few more years yet.

I second the Limited Too and Land's End kids. I just bought my daughter 4 suits (tankinis) from Limited Too last week, they were 50% off and I had an additional 20% off coupon-they ended up being about $16.00 apiece. I have also had luck in the past with landsendkids-I would check and see if they have a Land's End Inlet near you.
