OT-sort of Do you think this is real

Another way to tell it's fake is that you can't NOT be in a seatbelt. They do lock in place and if you notice when you buckle your seat belt if there is an empty seat beside you they still buckle the seat belt so that the ride runners know they are locked in place and that if there IS someone in the seat they know they are buckled in. There would be no way for this person to put the seatbelt on, have the ride runner check it then him un-do the belt. Not possible. Once it's on, it's on until the end of the ride.

Photoshopped - I showed DH and we both agree:

1 - The guy with his arm up would be worried, very worried, if someone at a guess 80 kilos was flying above him, not laughing like in the photo.

2 - Without a seatbelt in all probablity he would go straight up and down. And even in a quick up/down fashion that guy sitting next to him would of been injured.

3 - A mobile/cell phone normally has it's shutter open long enough that you dont get the lines across the picture. They have a lot slower shutter speed to get more light in to compensate for that fact they don't normally have a flash.

4 - And finally, if you save the picture to your pc, and blow it up to 250%+ as I did you'll notice that the pixelation around the flying guy's foot doesn't match, likewise with where the head is meant to be, nor the guy in the white t-shirt who appears to be semi-standing.

My favorite explanation so far. . .technical and precise. I have had friends try to thwart the seatbelt issue and no one has ever been able to. I can count hundreds of times when they tried. . .so. . .a good photoshop pic but not an actual reality. . .

But at a certain point (after the CM checks that we're pulling on the yellow tab?), aren't the buckles LOCKED in? I know after the ride when I'm trying to get out (same thing with Soarin') and I'm pressing and pressing the button to unlock me and it won't unlock

Is *that* the reason why I usually have so many problems trying to get out of my Soarin' seatbelt? And here I was thinking I was just seatbelt-challenged...

lol nope, it's locked for your safety so we're all seatbelt challenged :)

I think so! Because as soon as we "land", I'm gathering my things from under the seat compartment and pressing on my red button and I can't get out. And then you can hear everyone unbuckling their seatbelts at the same time because they all make this noise. I'm assuming it's the same way at TOT because I try to get out as soon as the ride is over and it won't let me.

I don't think you're seatbelt-challenged.

Courtney, you are 100% right, the seat belts DO lock until they are unlocked by a CM. So no, he couldn't have locked it and then unlocked it. I was telling DBF about this photo and he was agreeing that no way it could be real.

Kylieh, excellent explanation!

I guess this happened at CA in Sept and I don't know if you had seen it.

Do you think it is real or photoshopped?

I would be terrified to be in a car with that guy!

If Disney said the "photo is not up to Disney standards" then it never would have made it on the board in the first place, it would have been blocked out before he managed to get the shot on his phone. And you can't unbuckel the seatbelt once it's latched. I guess he could have not latched it in the first place but the CM checks it. AND I wouldn't be surprised if the ride wouldn't even RUN if a seatbelt were unlatched.
To quote Elaine in Seinfeld "FAKE FAKE FAKE FAKE"

It definitely seems that this is photoshopped. And not because of the seatbelt issue, just because as others have stated, you would not fly up that much.

Not to try to argue against safety, and I am not advocating this ANY way, but it is possible to make CMs think that everyone is buckled in when they are not (as previously stated by others). All one has to do is buckle the seatbelt behind them and pretend to pull up on it when the CM is walking by. That way, the light goes green and the ride will start. I have seen a few teenagers actually do this in Star Tours. They were tossed all over the place and it did not look like fun (not all over the ride, they held onto the seat, but they were struggling).
